I was in Grand Central Station in NYC a few days ago, and the security force guarding the place wasnt police, it was US Army. Is this normal?

Perhaps the New Yord Guard, which is the NY state defense. (can you imagine that here, WA with it's own army and airforce, deary me)

Yeah, that's not uncommon at all, saw them at Penn station too. Part of their heightened security measures.
