Hi

We are arriving into Singapore on 1st May at 23.50pm terminal 1 and departing 2nd May at 08.55 am Terminal 2 to Koh Samui in Thailand. Can we stay in the transit hotel or would we have to clear customs as we are departing from a different terminal or would it be best just to find a pay as you go lounge as Emirates lounge closes at 2.00am.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Maureen

Are the flights on the one ticket and baggage is thru checkable, if so then no issues with the transit hotel, but book ASAP

No the Flight from Melbourne to Singapore is on Emirates and I booked separately with Silk Air to Koh Samui.

Might be best to do the left luggage trick, stay in the transit hotel and grab bags in the morning after six hours sleep and recheck in.

Would that be safe as we are taking our golf clubs? Or is there a pay lounge you can recommend?

You could still use the transit hotel regardless, better than a lounge. I think at least one of our members has done the trick with clubs.

Thanks Markis. Will give it a try.

Try checking with the transit desk on arrival as we'll, it's been known for them to do checkin and retrieve your bags to save you going through formalities. No guarantees.

Not wanting to disagree as I'm a complete newbie to posting in comparison, and Markis10 has seriously way more experience than I do, but for me personally, not sure I would be comfortable staying in the transit hotel airside with my luggage spinning around on the carousel landside with the view to picking it up in the morning.

Unfortunately the Crown Plaza Changi Airport (the closest hotel to the airport after exiting immigration) isn't cheap and given the limited time there, would probably not be worth it.

Does EK have an interline agreement with MI? I know we've flown SQ from BKK transiting through Changi to an EY flight and SQ interlined the bags through to BNE - they just couldn't issue boarding passes and we had to collect them from the EY desk in Changi when we arrived. We didn't need to collect our luggage, just show the bag tags at the transit desk and EY made sure they were on the flight from SIN to BNE. If EK can do this, you can just pick up your boarding passes from MI at the T2 transit desk and grab some sleep in the transit hotel (Ambassador) before heading off to Koh Samui.

Have a fabulous time - I love Koh Samui!!!

Thanks Suzi. I will give Emirates a call.
First time to Koh Samui as daughter is getting married at Kupu Kupu in Ko Phangan so we thought we would have a few days in Koh Samui before and again after the wedding before heading back to Singapore for a couple of days on the way home.
Any recommendations for Koh Samui?

Our members have been doing this for some time, see http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rt-ambassador-transit-27918-2.html#post400209, your bag does not stay on the belt, it gets collected in a short time and stored in a safe place until you claim it.

Congratulations - hope the wedding is beautiful and you all have a fantastic time away.

Really depends on what you like to do, see, experience? Have you determined where you are staying?

We now try and spend 3-4 weeks there when we get the opportunity, so tend to rent a self contained villa or apartment rather than stay in a hotel room. Our preference is to stay around Bophut (Fishermans Village) or Bangrak. Chaweng, although fabulous to visit, is a bit more touristy/busy, so we will go there for a look around/markets etc, but don't stay there.

If you have an idea of what you like, will put some suggestions together for you. Will you be hiring a car?

Thanks Markis. Still makes me a bit nervous - but that's just me. Probably why I try to keep luggage to carry on only as much as possible. :)

There is an element of risk/mistakes happening, however there is also the chance that the traveller won't be able to check in until morning, leaving them stranded somewhat.

I've done both methods - I've used the transit lounges where they've collected it for me an transferred it. 9 out of 10 times this has worked (the other time my bags made it to me after 36 hours - full credit to JQ/3K, they got it to me asap and TID travel insurance who paid out 2x sets of clothes and toiletries without a question).

Leaving the luggage and collecting later has also worked just fine the twice I've done it.

worth noting if you do the transit hotel, book the transit hotel in the terminal which you might need to collect your bags the next morning! They recommend this on their website anyway, but if you arrive T1, you should stay at T1, then the next morning it is simple to walk to collect the bags (if you need to). Staying at another terminal means you'd have to walk all the way back to the original one to complete immigration and access the relevant baggage storage area.

I have done the 'overnight' thing. Bags were stored in a 'secure' area. No problems.

Nobody steals anything in Singapore anyway, even left out in the open. I think the penalty for larceny is amputating your hands off ;) Jokes aside, unattended baggage will definitely go to the Lost Baggage area and its 99% sure it will be sitting there ready for you after your 6 hour snooze in the transit hotel.

Any recommendations for Koh Samui?

The variety of options is plentiful. You need to narrow down the price you want to spend because I could be recommending you the Four Seasons or W Koh Samui whilst you only want to pay a tenth of that, or vice versa.

Hi Maureen, when you land, of which I'm guessing EK405, you can stay in the 'sterile' area if you wish. No actual requirement for you to clear customs and come back in again. EK flights arrive and depart from Terminal 1, and Silkair flight arrive and depart from Terminal 2. You would however need to walk to the other end of Terminal 1 to catch the Skytrain to Terminal 2. Please note the sky train near Gate C1 in Terminal 1 only goes to Terminal 3.

MI interline agreements are the same as SQ. Thus on SQ's website, one can find that indeed Emirates can interline the baggage through to MI. If that fails, follow this transfer desk procedure for easy transfer to your next flight. Head to Transfer Desk E or F at Terminal 2 via the skytrain, and at the Transfer Desk, the Check in desk cerk will ask you for your baggage receipts from EK, and they will then re-tag your baggage to your intended final destination of VTSM/USM/Koh Samui.

Since there is no requirement to go landside, you can therefore enjoy a night at the Ambassador Transit hotel in T2. You do however need to make reservations for the hotel beforehand via their website as they wouldn't normally have available space on an ad-hoc basis.

If you have Velocity Gold or Platinum, you can access the Krisflyer Gold Lounges in T2 and T3 even on a Silkair (MI) flight number. both lounge are open 24/7, and will be a good place to grab a bite during the wee hours of the night should you feel hungry. Also, no arrivals access with Emirates after arrival in Singapore as The Emirates Lounge is a Departures lounge only and EK doesn't provide such a facility as an Arrivals Lounge in SIN.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see that there was a second page to this thread, but i'll just leave this here for easy reference.
