Transiting in LAX

We land at Tom Bradley at LAX at 10.55pm and are flying out on AA at 6.05am the next morning. We are travelling with a lot of luggage and the internal flight is on a separate ticket. We assume that Qantas will therefore not check our luggage though to our final destination.

Is there anywhere in TBIT that we can check in our AA luggage or will we have to take it to terminal 4? We are hoping to have a few hours sleep between flights so are trying to think of the most efficient ways move our luggage.

Check in at T4 opens 4:30am. All TBIT check in for AA is closed.

Really bad timing, wow I think I'd rather stick a fork in my eye, better to arrive then have from midnight through next morning in a hotel and go for an afternoon AA flight.

Unfortunately we are trying to get to Montrose Co and AA have cancelled the better timed connections. We were initially on QF11 tomorrow but Qantas rerouted us via Melbourne on QF93 which gets in 95 mins later. The fates have conspired to put us in this position! Hopefully the Dreamliner seats will have meant that we will sleep on the plane.

I've been to Montrose, tracing the old Denver and Rio Grande Western. But, I was impressed that Maccas retains the old Speedy character and not a Ronald in sight.

I will check out McDonalds sign! Montrose is the gateway to Telluride and Crested Butte ski resorts.

Have you flown yet? If you do choose to go to an airport hotel for a bit of sleep (though you won't have more than 3 hours there), many hotels offer free shuttles that circulate frequently - we stayed at the Renaissance which was fairly close (allow about 10-15 minutes for the shuttle itself and 10-15 minutes travel time, so up to 30 minutes for this). The hotel shuttle drivers will load your luggage on and off for you, but be prepared to tip them (you can get small bills from the hotel if you don't have any). There are free Smart Cartes at the international arrivals area so you can use those to push the luggage to the shuttle pickup which is outside TBIT on the upper departures level (the nearest shuttle pickup area is to the right towards T4, right outside the lift you'll need to use to get up there).
