Transiting at BNE

Phone up first.
I have changed days (on a Saturdays several times) to get my J class seat, with QF 3 times chasing the 330 MEL - SYD about 18 to 24 months ago.
As it kept changing to a 737, no change fees were charged in the 3 occasions I phoned up.
Yes, wait times were a pain in the you know where, ...
Changing by phone might work better, if it succeeds.
Or if you get the chance, even overnight in BNE.
Did that for my first BNE QFi flight that time.
Thought it was downstairs to immi and security then upstairs again to departures at BNE int.
Long ago though.
Anyways OP, hope you make the NRT flight.

we had a transit through Bris and the incoming flight was delayed(common for BNE). Just missed the connecting bus to the international terminal so caught a cab. We were the last people to board but sadly our bags didn't make it. After that I always give myself a 2 hour gap.

What happens if your bags dont make it? Do you have to go to the airport the next day at your own cost?

You were very lucky. A change of operating equipment is not normally grounds for a change fee waiver.

Looks like im on 502... but since i do need a visit to the TRS im thinking of moving to 500.. QF might charge me an arm and a leg for it though as I bought the J fare on sale
For TRS, if there is a long queue then look to see if they have the dropbox in operation. You fill out the form, write your OWN name and address on the envelope, insert your invoices and completed form (white copy only) and place in the drop box. Takes around 6 weeks at present to get processed for BNE dropbox claims, but better that than no refund at all (which is what happened to me at SYD TRS recently when I was transiting, and they had no dropbox).

Don't forget you have to make your TRS claim at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

If they do the form in the box method presumably this doesn't apply, but filling out the form does take extra time.

Shouldn't be an obstacle tho, i thought int. flights starts boarding around 40 mins before the scheduled departure time? Anyway if QF71 gets delayed on the day, you know who to blame :<

When connecting from a DOM to and INT flight at BNE, if there is no airside bus between the terminals, then is catching the train from Domestic station to International station an option?
I assume the cost would be similar to a taxi and just as quick if you are aware of the train's departure time before leaving the domestic terminal?

For Ads, if its a once off, and it won't be cheap, and you are worried about the time, I would get a taxi/cab.
Both the train ($5) and the free bus, will run to a schedule, and not fast.
I would say the taxi fare would be about $15/$20, yes, even for that short a distance, as they have to cover their airport charges, you can try www.taxifare.com.au for a rought idea.
I paid $35, yep, and thats Aud from SYD T3 to SYDT1, early one morning, had to ring up the taxi phone number, as there were no cabs to be seen at 5am, just had walked from the Ibisbudget at SYD dom, thinking there would be cabs that early outside T3, but none in sight.
So I had to pay pay phone booking fee, and also airport taxi charges, for 4.5 to 5km ride, $$$.
Great if you make it onto the train/bus at BNE dom, but who knows, it might wait for time scheduling.
The train (when I use it) at BNE dom sometimes waits there for 10 mins, as does the orange bus.

As you'll be landside you might as well take the free inter-terminal shuttle bus.

Thanks AustraliaPoochie.

Thank you, that's my thoughts too.

I was more thinking of the rather specific scenario where you are time critical, arrive at the domestic bus stop just to see it leave and knowing the next bus is 10 (?) mins away from departure, but being aware of the train timetable and that the next train is due to depart in 4 mins.........you could end up arriving at the international terminal 5-10 mins earlier by taking the train as opposed to waiting for the 'next' bus or if there was no taxi immediately available.

However if you can spare 10 mins, then yes I would take the inter-terminal bus each time aswell.

Why doesn't Brisbane have an airside connection? It could even be a joint VA/QF service.

Re airside transfers at Bne, I think too that cost of security could make it complicated and expensive.
Dom and int security have different costings, (let's just SYD dom security screening at int terminal for QF is a once off legacy), they probably won't do it again... at any other airport in Aust.

No way can you make it from QF dom doors at Bne arrivals to train in 4 mins, even running marathon speed.
Hlo also in consideration.
Run up first escalators, run on flat walkway, run up 2nd set of escalators, gave a QR tix scanned by person, 6.75 mins, maybe...

Largely because of the different standards we have between domestic and international. This won’t be the case forever, from what I’ve heard we will see an alignment of these gradually over the next decade as we look to combine domestic and international flights from single terminals.

The airside buses in LAX and many other airports don’t make you clear security more than once, we’re one of a minority of countries that has differing security standards.
