Hi
have booked for an upcoming trip for transit through changi on separate tickets;
MEL-SIN on Qantas metal and SIN-CMB on UL metal but booked on qantas (reward booking)
Will qantas honor the booking for through checking of bags from MEL-CMB or will I be asked to collect bags at changi?
Their website doesn't specify this although mentions that exceptions in award bookings on qantas flying OW metal will be through checked.

Unless it has changed, you can only transit on one booking, if it's separate booking you have to enter SIN via VTL and get the VTL pass and comply with all VTL requirements.

When's your flight though? The rules might well change by the time you fly.

Transit travellers refer to those who depart for a third country via Singapore without clearing arrival immigration. Travellers who intend to clear arrival immigration and enter Singapore, before departing for a third country, are not considered as transit travellers. They are responsible for ensuring that they fulfill all requirements for entry into Singapore, and should refer to the “Travelling to Singapore” page for more information.

My understanding that your situation looks like you need to apply for VTL and arrive on VTL flight?
Not the simplest website - but it should all be there.

EDIT: Looks like new news, already!

I can't read it as its behind a paywall, but perhaps another AFFer has a link.

No VTL flights after April 1st.
Transit areas no longer segregated.
To enter Singapore need to be vaccinated but unsure if non vaccinated travellers can transit.
Fully vaxxed no longer will be a problem.

My trip is in the middle of April. I don't intend to clear immigration and enter SIN. Just wanted to know if Qantas will through check my bags for reward bookings as they say on their website. But knowing Qantas they are so unreliable.

In normal times I would suggest calling QF and getting them to link the 2 bookings. But nowadays you need hours to spare to wait on the phone .....

Yes they should, but if not you can also go to a transit desk in T1 and get your bag tagged to CMB (if SIN still does that).

I know right! Wish they had an email address where they could address these issues.

That is precisely my plan of action if Qantas won't through check my bags. I have done that successfully in the past pre-covid.

The situation in Singapore It is still a tad confusing re connecting on separate tickets, I think they still maintain that you must be on the same ticket (correct me if I'm wrong). This means that most likely the transit desks are all closed.

According to the qantas rules on connecting (avail here: https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnec...on/interline-and-through-checked-baggage.html), they are not required to check you through, unless your initial QF flights are a paid booking?

Worse case scenario given these new rules is that you will need to enter Singapore, collect your bags and head right back upstairs. Up until a few weeks ago this wasn't possible due to testing requirements, but has been made even easier with the announcement today.

My initial flight out of MEL is a paid revenue QF flight. Only my connecting flight out of SIN is a reward flight booked and ticketed on QF. As per their website, they should through check-in my bags to final destination. I will have just over 2 hours transit time in SIN. I am planning to go prepared to clear immigration and re check in at SIN. For this, I am planning to do a PDT and carry a report with me. Will update on how it went.

Just to update, QF agent at MEL through checked my bags to final destination. She said it was very easy to add the other PNR to my QF booking as it was also a QF reward booking. The same won't be possible if I had a separate OW PNR.
How was the check in and transit process?
We have BNE-SYD-SIN-DOH-FRA next week on a OW award ticket. I'm sure QF agents are across not needing the test for SIN transit but it's the one thing I'm concerned about - turning up and the domestic check-in demanding test results as part of the paperwork.
The IATA Travel Pass app doesn't want to load the flight, I suspect because of the 13 legs on the PNR.

Hi
my transit in SIN was smooth and easy as I had boarding passes to my connecting flight. So I was able to go to the lounge at T3 at SIN after arriving into T1. I didn't need a PDT as I was only transiting in SIN. If your bags are through checked as they should be on award bookings, you won't be asked to show a PDT at check in at BNE. It all depends on the requirements of the final destination country.
