Hi guys, I am struggling to find the better transit flights to use my points with and am worried I won't have used it all up before they expire next year. I am wondering if I should bite the bullet and book flights that have 7hr transit times. I know it's a lot and I have done 5 hr transits in the past but not 7 for a long time if ever. Except I will be flying business so I guess I get to use the business lounge at least. Not sure if there is a time limit on that. But also could make it more bareable.. I heard someone mention to take a shower and get my clothes pressed etc.

What do you guys think?

With 7 hours I'd book a hotel room in the city or at the CP Changi, rest for a few hours then go and spend 2-3 hours in the lounge.

Any idea how much it is to book at the airport? I dont really want to check out of the airport etc, I would prefer my baggage to go direct plus i dont know if at that point i may as well just book a direct flight to bkk in economy.

You can immigrate into Singapore while your bags are still checked through.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In the past I have used the airside transit hotel at Changi and can certainly recommend it. I've not checked recently but it operated at both Terminals 1 and 3 with one of them having an outdoor swimming pool which guests could use. If you will be in need of sleep then the hotel is a good option. Alternatively you have enough time to head into the city for a walk around and a bite to eat.

What are arrival and departure times for the flights? That would help with the advice.

At Singapore you can certainly pass through immigration, head into town via train (MRT), taxi or rideshare (Grab) to fill in the hours, even if your luggage remains in transit for the connection. Or you can even just pop through immigration, visit Jewel (at the airport) and then go back through immigration an hour later to head to the lounge. But the recommendations do vary depending on the time of day.

If you've booked an Australia-SIN-BKK flight and you don't take the SIN-BKK flight the rest of your ticket may be cancelled. Your bags don't need to be collected during the transit either.

Airside your options are Ambassador (T3) or Aerotel (T1). Crowne Plaza and Yotel are located landside at SIN.

If it was me I would take a leisurely walk all over Jewel for 2 hours then go to the lounge to eat, drink, and rest for 2 hours, then walk around and browse the terminals for 1 hour, then eat, drink and rest at the second SQ lounge for 1 hour. Then I will head to the gate.

My flight lands at midnight and the flight to BKK from sin is at 7am. It's the only business class seats I can find. Otherwise I can just fly economy direct with Qantas or Thai. Just trying to use my points if I can.but don't want to waste them on economy flights.

In that case book the aerotel, which is airside.

Single rooms have shared bathrooms, larger rooms have an ensuite

Why wouldn’t you book Ambassador Hotel in T3 - Aerotel is a bit of a walk to far side T1 - if you arrive in A gates T3 you have to walk past Amb T3 to go to Aero T1 - if you arrive B gates T3 short walk back to Amb - not a deal breaker but I would def stay T3 - pool in T1 is closed the hours you are there so forget that

I always ended up at Uniqlo to spend my Changi dollars so always went to that side.

Will try ambassador next time.. Thanks

Definitely book an airside hotel - not sure when you’re travelling but if not in the near term, keep an eye on what’s happening - T2 is supposed to be gradually opening up in second half of the year, but who knows. SQ might stay in T3 or they might revert to the SE Asia flights departing from T2 like they used to - in which case T2 hotel might also re-open and make sense.

If price prohibitive, Yotel at Jewel might be cheaper - although it is landside (but immigration should be quick at that time of night). Or otherwise SQ is supposed to be having a nap area in the lounge in T3, but it is not open yet.

So to Transit Landside, I assume all the testing requirements for Covid have now gone for both arrival and departure from SIN unless an arrival destination requires it?

I can’t comment on arrival testing into Thailand, but no longer needed (for those who are vaccinated) for entry into Singapore.

Thank you. Thailand is not a concern for myself as my next two trips are UK/France and then in Sept Spain(Transit in Milan)/Portugal

For my next flight transiting in SIN in, it is MEL to SIN to LHR in mid-June.

Currently I am booked into landside hotel. I know that arrival is not a problem. So it was just departure from SIN to LHR that I am concerned about.

If I had to test in Singapore in order to depart from SIN, after entering Singapore, I would instead stay airside as it would not be worth the risk of testing positive.

Singapore government have no test requirements for departure, and never have. The test requirements for departure from Singapore are only dependent on arrival country test requirements. Also they are enforced by the airline at checkin, when receiving BPs. If you receive your BPs in Melbourne then I guess no one will look again at the documentation unless specifically flagged.

Thank you.

We are Flying with SQ, and so they will provide boarding passes in MEL I assume as they always have done so in the past when I have had transiting flights in SIN.

Bags will be checked through, and we will only have our cabin bag.

UK has no testing requirements for entry.

The SilverKris J lounge will be open but most things close down during those hours - or at least they used to pre-Covid. It’s quite eerie. I don’t know about you but I don’t fancy sleeping in public (although there are people napping everywhere in those hours). I’d pre-book a bed in the Ambassador transit hotel and have a nap and a shower. I’ve stayed there a few times and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.
