Transfers from CDG

Hi everyone!

I've been enjoying reading the posts here for a while now, you all have a wealth of information!!

Im travelling to CDG in a few weeks for the first time and am landing late at night. Could you please advise the easiest, cheapest and safest way to transfer to my hotel in the city near the Louvre. I prefer not to use cabs as I hear they are quite expensive and directions are a little hard.

I also happen to be making my first trip to CDG in about 3 weeks. My TA asked the hotel that I am staying at in Paris to arrange a car to collect me and the quote was EUR 170!!!

After I picked myself up off the floor, I made some inquiries and it turns out that a taxi will cost about EUR 45 from CDG into Paris. That's still not exactly cheap though, but it is the way I will probably do it.

Cheapest way is to get the RER (train) to the nearest station to your hotel and then either walk (if you're lucky and it's close by) or taxi from there. I've paid a LOT more than 45 euros for a taxi from CDG in the past.

Im thinking the train is a good option, although not sure how far the walk will be to the hotel. Im wondering if anyone has any recent experiences with shuttle bus companies like the Air France one suggested that go door to door.

Be aware that travelling by the RER and Metro late at night is not always the safest option. If you're aware of your surroundings and can handle yourself, you should be fine. But with luggage, after a long flight, it might be a more advisable to pay the 45 euro.

Can only agree. It is not wise to go to a city where you've never been before and attempt to catch public transport to a hotel - especially late at night.

Signs are hard to read, platforms are often unattended, you barely know the place, yet think you can string everything together successfully. Can work fine if you have precise directions, but that's not always the case. Add the complication of large baggage and you could be asking for issues.

I have no issues with catching late night trains from (eg) BNE, SYD, JFK or LHR or similar airports that I know where I'm going - but for new cities, nah, I'll grab a shuttle bus or taxi.

I don't follow my own advice all of the time and still catch late night transport in unfamiliar cities and/or take risks with various forms of transport, but do think it is something you really need to be aware of.

I agree, normally I arrive into CDG in the morning, buy would stay at the Mecure or Novotel at the airport if arriving on a late flight. I have satyed at the Mercure prior to a flight and it is very nice.

Yes they do have shuttles, Ibis and Mercure use the same shuttle(s), cant remember if the Novotel have there own or use the same as the other accor ones.

I have used the CDG Hilton and it is very handy to the RER station (just a short walk). And yes, the Hilton has a shuttle to/from the airport.

Unfortunately we dont stay at Hilton's, I get Mercure if lucky other its Ibis, but wont go Formula 1 though.
