Transferring QF Int to AA Dom Different PNR - A Few Questions

After all that and if you have time, I would go to the FL at T4 with all the BP's and request standby - they can enter it.

Personally I'd simply relax as I posted above.

FWIW, I'm not a standby fan, but the only time I have done so was for a Q class fare LAX-SFO in the F/L.

About 40 minutes before the flight I was trying to standby for, I was PA'd and at the desk was given a First Class BP.

What do they do about your checked luggage which is tagged for the later flight?

Thanks dfcatch, I have booked on AA1936 and had an information segment added to the QF flights. I also called AA and they noted my arrival time and airline in the booking but didn't want / need my PNR or flight number. Does this sound right?

Interestingly AA2407 has been pushed back to 10:15 and AA1936 12:30 (arriving on QF93 at 06:35) so there was an increased window to make the earlier flight. I guess I can always ask politely to move to the earlier flight if everything goes smoothly.

It looks like AA have been very busy re-jigging flights......I just had a number of flights early April moved either 1/2 hour or 1 1/2 hours. Had to move to another flight due to this bringing friends connection time down to 1 hour.

Whereas I've had AA1936 LAX to SFO moved 1/2 hour back which is much better than it used to be as it gives right on 3 hrs connection time from QF11.

It used to be a bit tight and have previously missed it due to QF11 delays or immigration lines.

My QF93 to to AA1936 layover is now 5:35 compared with 3:20 for the earlier flight. I'm seriously considering going against the excellent advice in this thread and swapping to the earlier flight (the minor schedule change should allow me to do this without penalty).

I'd be reasonably comfortable with 3:20.......

That said - it can make things stressful if 93 runs late or immigration is slow.....

Up to you, if you choose the early and miss it - you get bumped to the next one.

If you choose the later one you have no stress and if early, can always ask for the earlier one.

3:20 changes the advice slightly.....

Did you use the 'Express Connections' Lane in LAX or was the delay after you'd got your bag off the carousel & just waiting to hand in your form & get the Spanish Inquisition from Officer Martinez?

Getting put on the later flight wouldn't bother me. It's having to pay a small fortune for a new ticket or driving to SFO that I'm worried about!

I've not been through LAX since the introduction of the "express lane". Although given last time I was there QF11 was on time, but so was half of Asia..... So I imagine several hundred people "would have" qualified for the express lane had it been there.

My last delay was before seeing the first Officer Martinez, my bags would have been happily guarded by the First Host was looking after all the First tagged bags (but alas QF had failed, once again, to put First tags on my bag as per policy, but that's another rant in another thread, and yet another "apology" from QF).

FWIW - I've never had more than a cpl mins delay post-baggage when going through customs.

If there's a backlog it's always been at the immigration counters IME.

I'm on the 11/1936 connection on Tues but I doubt I'll have issues seeing as:

1/ I'm in F

2/ 1936 has been pushed back 30 mins

3/ There is now an express lane

But we'll see ;)

You shouldn't have any issues either way IMHO.... But - for me, if on separate PNRs I would opt for the later connection, same PNR - earlier connection.

Just to be safe ;)

(don't underestimate the stress component either)

Interesting there's been no notification as yet-

A 2:30pm LAX-SFO has been moved to 3:05pm and an xMIA has been reduced from 1:40 to 0:55.
