Transferring in LAX (TBIT) now post COVID

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has any recent experience in transferring at LAX (TBIT) post-COVID and whether or not the Oneworld global support is still being offered at LAX. I would be grateful to hear of any recent experiences given that lots of previous posts are well outdated now since COVID.

I am traveling on AA from LHR to LAX TBIT (in economy but OWE with Qantas Platinum) and I note that I have to clear customs and security again to try and catch my onward connection from LAX TBIT to SYD on QF. I won't have any checked bags (just carry-on) but my connection time is only 90mins - so it's going to be very tricky to clear customs and re-do security to get to the next gate.

I'm keen to hear of other experiences as to whether global support is offered (from AA international to QF international) again post COVID?

Many thanks

My experience was from mid April and I’m not sure what support you need. I flew in with Alaska Air (F) and was able to walk airside through the tunnels to the one world lounge. At the lounge, they issued our J boarding passes to Sydney. IIRC, they would only issue passes for those who were entitled to enter lounge.

Was that US Domestic onto QF Intl? There is no security or customs clearance while departing the US.

In @avlawyer82 's case, it's an international to international connection, and all arrivals into the US must clear customs/security etc.

Whilst not exactly the same I have both arrived and departed from TBIT in the last week, so....

It took some time with customs inbound, most of that was waiting in the line itself. Talking to the customs agent took all of 30 seconds.

Outbound through TSA was relatively quick, although again if you luck out and get placed into a queue with an in-experienced flyer (like I was on Monday night) then it can still take some time.

I would want longer than 90 minutes up my sleeves, because any delay is going to make life interesting. That said it was no worst post COVID than in pre-COVID times.
