Hi folks - would appreciate thoughts here from those that pass through HKG a lot :-)

My flight to HKG from LHR arrives at 14.10 - my onward flight to PER departs at 15.00.

It's on one ticket purchased direct, but do you reckon it's possible?

On my outbound flight, I had 4 hours in HKG - it took a good hour from when the flight landed to getting through transfer security.

Thanks so much!

If it's on one ticket, you'll at least be covered. Whether you make it or not will depend on if there are any delays from the flight from LHR. Assuming actually on time departure and arrival, 50 min is more than enough and a CX staff will likely whizz you through everything.

Thanks Elanshin.
I was thinking they wouldn't sell it if not possible - but then I also think land at 15.00 - say its on the northern r/w = 15 mins to gate, 5 min to get off plane = 15.20.
Presumably the shut up shop 20 mins before on the departing plane, so 15.40 - giving me 20 mins.
Feels tight!
Anyway, we'll see. I did a bit of a review and it appears the London flights are almost always on time, if not a little early, so there is hope!
I'm at work the next morning, so really hope to make it!
Thanks for the reply :-)

The thing to keep in mind is that with a CX staff guiding you, the team at the gate knows exactly where you are. They won't close the doors on you if they know you're being expedited through the airport with a staff and they know the rough ETA. It's when PAX go missing that they have to close the doors on the cutoff.

I don't pass through a lot but my experience is HKG is great for taking care of tight connections.

Few years back we flew CX BNE-HKG-DAD. Our incoming to HKG was very late and we were sure we would miss the connection as only 15mins to scheduled departure remaining.

We and 6 other passengers were collected at the gate and rushed through the airport (we had to run after the liaison guy) and then bussed to another terminal and escorted onto the plane which had been held waiting for us.

We thought that was real service and fully expected our luggage to come on a later flight. But no, miraculously our luggage was on the belt in DAD. Amazing!

‘Landed’ vs ‘door opening’. Taxi times can be long at Hong Kong, but they’re factored into the total block time. If it says ‘arriving at 1410’ that means ‘doors open’, not ‘touchdown on runway’

Otherwise an hour to complete transfer security is rough… there are several points to complete it other than the main one by immigration. It should take no more than 30 mins to get off one aircraft and to the gate of the next.

I travel through HKG on CX quite regularly and I woudn't bet on your chances. Better to have a plan B.

This is a single ticket sold by CX, they would be responsible and also perfectly capable of holding the door open for a few minutes as well as shepherding PAX through the airport expedited (front of queues, buggies etc).

Also check the inbound flight into LHR just in case there's already a significant delay for some reason so you'll have around 12 hours of advance notice

Could be a bit more than "a few minutes" and the pax need to consider arriving somewhat later to their destination (accommodation, etc)

Transit security in Hong Kong allow you to skip the queue if the time to your next flight is less than 45 minutes. You'll need to get near the front of the zig zag transit security and show your boarding pass to the person manning the queue.

Not required if you're escorted through, but note for you just in case.
