Hi all,
I can't find anything on this here, all the questions are about transferring from Dom to Int, and the MEL airport website isn't very helpful. I'm arriving into MEL on Etihad from LHR, and need to transfer to Virgin in the Dom terminal up to Cairns. This is my first time doing this as I lived in Sydney up until recently. I will have a LOT of luggage with me as I've been away for months. I know I need to get my luggage & transfer to the Dom terminal, but the website says I need to go up an escalator. Will I be able to take a trolley up there? There is no way I can get 3 suitcases & a carry-on up an escalator without one. Thanks guys for any info.

Definitely have lot of lifts everywhere at MEL airport. I was there in May and June with luggage, golf clubs and carry-on bag on a trolley.

I don't think you should have a problem taking a trolley on the escalator, but there are also lifts available IIRC.

MEL is a very easy transfer compared to SYD or BNE.
Ah, brilliant. Thanks so much :)

Thank you :)

I might be misremembering, but I'm fairly sure that there's a domestic checkin desk at the international terminal at Melbourne. If it is still there, and open, you should be able to checkin yourself and your luggage for the domestic flights.

Virgin and Qantas had one. It's at the far right of the terminal as you exit from arrivals.

Edit:Yes, I misremembered! That's Brisbane.

I think you may be referring to BNE?

@zoomaloid2000 the trolleys you pick up at the baggage carousels have brakes - the escalators leading from International arrivals to domestic are 'flat' forming a moving ramp rather than steps.
Yes I thought MEL airport had travelators instead of escalators but wasn't certain.

MEL transit is bliss compared to SYD and BNE. You don’t even have to exit the building.

Some of the travelators are currently getting refurbished, but the lifts at the T3 end of T2 work just as well. Or get the lift up to the Intl Departures in T2 and then walk on the same level over to T3. Piece of cake.

Just remember to turn right when you get to landside at T2. Signage is not a strong point at that part of the terminal.

Thank you. I've not had to do this before, and I've also stuffed my back up caring for my mum, so as little trolley pushing as possible is best!

By the way, how long is your connection time? If you look at some of the other threads, you’ll see that it can take more than an hour after landing before bags start to appear at the belt.
