Transfer from INT to DOM at BNE

Flying in on QF16 LAX-BNEand transferring to DOM terminal for connecting flight to SYD

Luggage tags have SYD as final destination.

Understand at BNE-INT immigration-collect bags-quarantine.
What happens next to expedite transfer to the DOM flight?

Is there a bag drop? Then catch a bus free with QF boarding pass?

Collect bags, exit into main international arrival area and go straight to transfer desk. Both VA and QF have them. Then take the free bus to domestic terminal. Turn right when you come into the main arrivals area after getting bags, immigration etc.

You can also take the train. (At least VA provides ticket for the train)

Were you on a single ticket? Although I have had this work on separate tickets from NZ to VA. Did you approach the transfer desks??

My bags were tagged to mel and i had onward boarding passes, makes no difference anyway still gotta take the bus

There is no need to lug bags to domestic.

Both Qantas and Virgin Australia have domestic check in / bag drop counters at the international terminal.

Head right after exiting immigration customs and continue towards the far far corner of the arrivals hall.

They can reissue BP's, change seats, flights as well as take your bags.

What did they say when you approached the transfer desk at international arrivals though?

You can take bus or train to domestic or walk if you really wanted to but the ability to drop your bags off at the transfer desk is nice so you don't have to lug them around with you. That to me makes a difference and is why I use the transfer desk even if on separate tickets. You don't need to see your bags again until your final destination.

Yes you need to get on the bus to get to the domestic terminal but you do not need to take your bags with you. You drop them at the transfer desk, turn right as you exit and it is at the north end of the arrivals hall.

Not sure why the bus is an issue you need to catch bus between terminals in SYD as well, only difference is SYD is airside.

Was first time transitting bne intl, fj checkin in nadi told me i have to take my bag to bne dom on bus even though they tagged it through to qf this me. If you are used to MEL I can understand your frustration as a first time transfer through BNE. IMO BNE is possibly the worst airport transfer (and design) in AUS whereas MEL is probably the easiest transfer in AUS.

The bus arrives landside in both directions. That requires clearing security again (and immigration at the international terminal).

Regardless of which side of the airport fence the bus travels on, that's a landside transfer in my book.

The bus was a complete palava.
Does not take 2 minutes as suggested.
Because people are getting on it with large pieces of luggage so boarding the bus takes a long time. The luggage then crowds the aisle so at the destination it's impossible to get off. Half the bus did not want to get off because they were heading to Virgin Jetstar etc. All up it took me 15 minutes from the time I got on to getting off.
This has got to be up there with the worst transfers I have experienced in Australia.
No wonder QF pushed for a combined terminal for PER for their B787 service.
Allow 1.5 hours minimum to transfer from INT to DOM at BNE. So I would not book a Dom connection after INT arrival any earlier than 2 hrs. I'm surprised that the airline says MCT is 1 hour. This is impossible
Additionally if you have a non standard bag like a ski bag, you have to go upstairs from INT arrivals to the INT departures to the oversize luggage drop off- here they scan the bags before they say you can go. So the wait is longer than the usual oversize bag drop. Then come back to arrivals level to catch the bus
Very embarrassing for international visitors connecting to the domestic network at BNE.

Dom to INT is always easier.
If on one bookings then bags handled by airline and no need to recheck bags.
No quarantine and immigration is always quicker
the orange free bus might be white.
everyone gets off at INT. You won't get the ones who stay on as their stop is the next one and block the exit for those trying to get off. (Yes you ex DPS passengers - your baggage tags give it away)

BTW when I got off QF 16 I had to walk around these same passengers trying to fill out the immigration cards on the floor on the way to immigration. Can't you guys do it onboard?

I take the T-Bus almost weekly from Domestic to DFO or DFO back to Domestic.

Occassionaly it takes forever for people to get on at international for domestic and I have never had issue getting off at Qantas. Shout if you have to, push people out of the way if that's what it takes. May not be good manners but have no respect for those who think life revolves around them.

Also have been doing this with wife and daughter the past 3 months. Used to save me heaps of money and now save even more. Just need to plan better and some drivers take off ~3 minutes early from DFO stuffing up connections.

I generally try to wait for the bus where the door is likely to be when the bus stops. When on I stay as close to the door as possible in readiness to get off quickly while the other less experienced co-travellers deal with their bags etc.

That's what I tried to do. But the driver kept saying go to the back. People were pushing checkin size luggage down the aisle and pushed luggage into the landing of the rear exit. As a exit I would think it would be unsafe. I should have stood at the rear exit instead of going to the back. At the DOM could not get out at rear exit due to all the luggage there and had to push my way to the front past all the people with more luggage and those idiots at the very front of the bus would not just get off to let passengers off. There was a couple at the front door with their checked luggage bags who just stood there. "Sorry can you get off so I can get off" No apparently that's too hard. The driver had to tell them to get off. They were not happy. Ex DPS according to luggage tags.
