VH aircraft will always be Australian crew
ZK aircraft will always be New Zealand crew

Although NZ crew can do other B747 and A380 flights. Not B737.

Thanks for this.

The lovely J attendant on my final flight was flying to LA next so I knew crews could swap in some circumstances.

The menu for SYD-WLG evening flight.

No photos, sorry. I had the crab which was absolutely delicious, followed by the empanadas, which were also very good. Not a huge serve but I'd eaten in the F lounge so not too fussed. Had the cheese after dinner as the ice cream was just vanilla bean.

And the return WLG-SYD afternoon (classed as dinner) flight:

I had the smoked salmon and then the grilled hapuka. Both were excellent. The fish was a decent serve. My seatmate had the salad of roast lamb. She was disappointed - but I suspect in part because she didn't read/realise it was a cold salad. The nachos didn't look all that good.

Ice cream was great as usual BUT they are no longer serving it with biscotti. A very disappointing cost-cutting loss.

Menu for the first of my QF151 overnight flights. Classed as supper flights with a café breakfast:

Pretty decent selection I reckon. They ask before take-off or immediately after what you want and if you'd like to be woken for breakfast (though the latter is unnecessary as they really only started the breakfast service at top of descent so lights were put on and cabin announcements made so everyone was woken up anyway). The breakfasts are plated but simple muffin etc so very quick to serve and clear away. I only had a juice or coffee so can't comment on the breakfast.

But for supper I asked for the quiche and the meatballs - not expecting much of the meatballs given criticism of the dish from others on the domestic business class meals thread. Quiche didn't arrive (happened on both flights actually). Meatballs were surprisingly good and I polished them off. Salty but tasty. Only issue was they were quite fatty.

Full range of beverages available every time. I was also pleased that passengers were encouraged to use eye shades from the amenity kits if they wanted to sleep. Some cabin lights left on for others, and the cabin only went dark when it was clear everyone had finished. The crew were very responsive through the maybe half hour when the cabin was dark. The CSMs walked up and down a few times to check. Really good service.

Breakfast flight AKL-SYD (though advertised as lunch - 8:30 departure so I had thought that odd):

The frittata and sausages were terrific. The chilli pastry was also sensational.

Really good crew too - Courtney looked after everyone really well. Happily opened a bottle of white for me at that early hour.

I also got caught with the lunch being advertised, so had a great brekky in the first class lounge and didn't partake on the flight. (just had a "liquid lunch")lol

Another of the overnight menus below. I had the beef brisket which was quite poor. Should have had the soup, especially as I had eaten in the lounge before.

Service great. Aussie aircraft and crew as noted above.

Oh, that beef looks nasty :(

Even accounting for the late hour, and I was coming from good food in the F lounge - it was a poor meal. Tasteless and tough. A shame because the offering and variety of food is actually pretty impressive for a red-eye of only around 3 hours. Very few people eat the hot meal in my experience so I guess the incentives aren't there.

Hmmm. I have a MEL-AKL coming up in a couple of weeks 0925-1500 scheduled time. Advertised as Breakfast - I expect "lunch"

Well I'll be breakfasting in the F lounge anyway so I hope it's more Lunch :)

To those who are regulars on the overnight QF151 MEL-AKL, is the supper service provided only on request? The standard being just to serve the cafe breakfast before arrival?

All Jetconnect / kiwi crews best I could tell. Not that they are all NZ'ers. Pretty sure on most flights they sign-off as 'your Auckland / Wellington based crew' too.

On my last TT flight bne - akl return. I found out that some of the crew overnight in bne then work the bne - lax flight the following day. They mentioned the akl crew was in the hundereds compared to wlg which was roughly fifty all up.

Pushka, the only thing I do not eat prior/pre flight or on a flight is anything with yogurt in it or curry chicken.
Probably miss out on taste sensations of food on planes, but the after effects of eating them are just too scary.

Well I love my curries but don't think the planes are the right place to enjoy. Was served an awful meal in J on SQ which really surprised meal. It even smelt bad so I sent it back. Turned me off food that flight. This was from Rome to Singapore and is apparently well known as a bad sector.

Haven't had any bad food experiences on Emirates. I did order ravioli on this EK sector for some reason I had read it was risotto. I don't enjoy pasta so I was a little annoyed with myself.

They ask you either pre-takeoff or pretty much straight after. The menus are on the seat so there's no doubt what is available.

Unlike the Perth red-eyes where - in my experience - you do have to ask otherwise nada.

Flew QF153 MEL-AKL over the weekend.

I did not eat any of the food as I had stuffed myself in the F Lounge. Must say I am glad I did as the options look very domestic (as expected from previous posts here) though the serve of the eggs(which my seatmate had) looked bigger than on dom. The cookies were a fun little pre-arrival snack, of sorts.

Service was slow... they did not get going until around 45min in I reckon - again not surprising given previous posts here.

I have to say the whole thing was so meh. tight domestic config (a ZK bird though) just added to it being cramped in for 3 hours.

I will say they did come to me (in row 3) prior to other pax to ask for my meal choice - presume I was the highest status pax in the cabin Nice touch I guess.

The timing suited me better than the EK flight else I would catch that. No contest with the produt offerings.

QFs menu seems so bland and generic - your pot luck bubbles, your "random wine" etc just so blah

QF learning from AA, perhaps...? :p
