Train Travel Between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

The ETS Service between KL and Singapore is a game changer.
Every long weekend or PH in Singapore or Malaysia means E2 motorway becomes a car park.
Airfares can get super expensive and I think the train would allow a traffic jam free, affordable journey between the two.
The downside is missing 20 Staus Credits on Qantas.

Seems RTS Link is firming for a 1 Jan 2027 opening.

Some video from passenger trials, with testing ongoing.

Will be up to 17 trains an hour each way carrying up to 600 pax.
Definitely a game changer for crossing the border, and clearing both countries’ immigration at the point of origin is pretty convenient. It’ll be rammed on weekends for sure.

A shame that capacity was still cut from the original 1280 passengers per train using the Singapore MRT specs, but the biggest bottleneck will be crowd dispersal on the Malaysian side where public transport has never been JB’s strong suit. I can imagine how long the Grab waiting lines would be until their Brisbane Metro-like buses start running… in 2030.

RTS Link has been pushed back to open in February 2027 - it’s not clear whether this is before Chinese New Year when border crossings would be extremely busy.

But don’t call it a delay according to the Malaysian transport minister, it’s a “postponement” because the project will be “technically complete” apart from the certification.
