Just thought I should collate the restaurants we have tried here in Townsville.First though what may be descibed as "street food".In fact the first two describe themselves that way.
First the Souvlaki bar on Gregory street. Here I had the plated lamb souvlaki.$30 but a large serving.Quite reasonable. The salad was very fresh.I added a plate of dolmades.

I was happy with the meal.It was a late lunch and I didn't need an evening meal.

The next is BalaBite not far away in Eyre street North Ward.It is fairly new and calls itself an Israeli street food restaurant.I had one of the cheap options-meatballs and roast vegetables.Certainly not fine cuisine but nice comfort food and only $14.

The last for this post is one of the best fish shops I have experienced.Tobin fishtales,Rose Street North Ward.Absolutely beautiful fish The Coral trout is great. But have also had the scallops and bug tails crumbed.Perfectly cooked.Mrsdrron and I only need the handful of fries.Even then the seagulls get a few.It is just a short distance from the Strand with great views over to Magnetic Island. This is a fillet of coral trout,2 bug tails and a handful of chips.Definitely recommended.

The view whilst eating that lot.

We came back again and had the suikiyaki.

A nice Tim Adams Pinot Gris.

GYO is a definite reccomendation.

The next night was to my club-the Cowboys. My membership from last year was still current. We started with oysters.Kilpatrick for mrsdrron and natural for me.Big and beautiful.

Next was to Miss Songs at the Casino.Good Chinese food,a little pricy and service a little lacking in polish. When we arrived couples were arriving for a Year 12 formal.Trying to imitate the Oscars.
So to the food.peking duck pancakes to start-pieces of duck tasty but a bit larger than usual.
1564912601963.jpeg.
Then 5 spice depp fried pork belly and scallops and broccoli.

Have it on a wednesday and a free pot of beer.
I went again on the last Monday-a rack of ribs plus a pot of Iron jack for $14.90.Forgot to take the camera that night but the ribs were good.

Some more cheap meals.
First the souvlaki bar just off the Strand.A late lunch of a plated lamb gyros plus dolmades.
1564919195059.jpeg.1564919214552.jpeg.
Took home a baklava and rice pudding for dinner.
1564919308745.jpeg.1564919321047.jpeg.

Then Balabite again and Jerusalem pulled pork on beetroot hummus.
1564919469205.jpeg.

And Tobin Fishtails with grilled coral trout and a battered bug tail.
1564919615657.jpeg.1564919628479.jpeg.

Also tried the barramundi and mackerel.both good but the coral trout is the standout.

A nice place for an early Dinner is the C-bar on the strand.A beer and a view.
1564919829305.jpeg.1564919844774.jpeg.

I started with the marinated calamari.different texture but nice flavour.
1564919913548.jpeg.
I did wonder if I had made the right choice when I ordered the Laksa.
1564919963661.jpeg.
But it was superb with a good kick to it.
So another recommendation.
