Ok, can someone please talk sense to me, I've been bouncing back and forth between the QF and J sites trying to get a booking either with $ or pts and I'm dizzy.
Seems that for the sectors I want to book:
QF don't fly to NTL (ever?).
QLink fly to NTL but only sometimes and it seems they don't offer seats in X class.
J* fly NTL to BNE/MEL and have X class seats bookable on the J* site ... but even if you start Q.com, you get bumped to J.com if you select only J* flights (different if you have a Q sector as part of the same booking).
VA fly NTL to BNE/MEL but not very often, and those times do not suit my plans.
QLink have no flights (or they are full). If I could take the VA option it would be $79 each way NTL/BNE. So it seems that J* is the only option (post Brindabella days !).
The J* revenue fare is $69/$49 +++++ until its more than VA, but at least the times are better. I could book through Q.com if other Q-metal sectors are involved and the J* legs are $94 each way with no SCs, whereas the same seat booked on J.com I can get Y- SCs for $94.50 (with plus pack and booking fee). Booking the same seats BNE-NTL return on Q.com as a Classic Award (no SC) its 12,800 pts and $69 taxes, whereas on J.com I can get the same seats as an Q&J ASA (with Y- SCs) for 16,000 plus $109 taxes if you pull the slider back to minimum points. I guess this is why no-one ever does a status run involving NTL!
So, a logic check please because the J* ASA is looking attractive... but do I need my head read if I'm considering sinking 16k + 109 for 20 measly SCs when the revenue fare is $190 (and still gets me 20 measly SCs)? Is this a good time to just do the Classic Award, save some points and $ since I could get 40 SC with a quick SYD/MEL JASA... or forget SC and grab the J* revenue fares with no plus pack for about $135 total.
The agony of choice.
ps. Anyone know a RAAF loadie who can get me OPSAT in an E-7A jump seat out of Willytown... at least it would be a B737 airframe
