Hi guys,
Pretty new to the whole FF thing and this will be my first post.
Recently joined QF program and did a (cheap) Business class trip to the USA, as well as a few others (Fiji/Vanuatu) which have taken me about halfway to Gold in a couple of months.

Problem I have is that I just booked (through a travel agent) a MEL-HKG-SYD flight on CX with the hope of getting a touch closer to that gold status... Just looked at my ticket and it is S class which looks like getting me zero credits AND zero points!

Fare is non-refundable and an upgrade to next class is around $200 (which only gets me 50% points anyway).

Am I out of options?
Most annoying thing is that there is a QF flight on same dates for $870 which would pull points for me I believe!

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your 1st post (even though you joined in January?)!

I think you should just pay for the $200 upgrade this time so you can at least earn the status credits which will bring you closer to Gold...

Upping the fare to V-class will only get me 30-40 SC's... Worth $200? Or chalk it up as a lesson for next time maybe...

Look at it from this perspective, how much more travel are you expecting to do for the remainder of your current year, and for the next year? If the SC's will get you past Gold, then you'll earn entry to the Qantas Club, plus the other Gold benefits, which is likely to be worth more than the $200 anyhow.

The way I see it, you may as well get some status credits out of it since you've already paid a few hundred dollars for the flights... And take that as the price of the lesson learnt?
