TomCat's new digs!

70 minute commute this morning which is decent. Would have been a touch faster without the jack-knifed truck. Walked into the office right on time.

70 minutes!

Way too long for me. I find that even 20 minutes driving is a nuisance.

At least the train is about the same time and I can read AFF whilst travelling. Plus, the short walk at either end is good exercise.

It's a pretty average commute for a lot of people. Even living in the Glen Waverley area could take me up to 80 minutes by public transport. Driving could be anything from 25 mins to an hour depending on traffic. Driving is much faster than PT from our new place, but a lot of the problem is that my work is poorly connected to train services (I dont work in the CBD).

That’s doabale. When in Sydney my son was taking 90 minutes. He just got into a routine. Read a book. Got to know the ‘locals’. Our in-laws in the UK have a 90 minute car commute. That’s hard.

Ouch, I get very annoyed if mine pushes over half an hour. I happily paid more for house for location to ensure we stayed a 1 car family and also factored in the lost productivity time. If you are consulting it is common for an hours time to be worth $200+ so that extra hour in the car each day can add up to $1000 a week very quickly.

Look, we'd have loved to have stayed in our former suburb, but we dont have $1.5 million+ to drop on a small house with little to no yard space.
TV work anywhere in the state so its not so much an issue for him, and I've only got four months of commuting before I'm on leave for a year anyway.

I was about to say you will be home with Bub before long, watering that garden and walking the dogs with baby in stroller.

Which reminds me, I must have missed it, where is your water tank? Does VIC require one by law?

It is either/or. You have to have either solar hot water or a water tank to meet the energy rating requirements. Saying that it doesn't preclude you having both by choice.

Ah. New fandangled estates have recycled water and underground power. *sigh* much nicer than my old neighbourhood.

I dont like the idea of recycled water for laundry - unless its super filtered/clean recycled. Is it?

Mains plumbed in recycled water is actually good enough to drink and has been fully treated. But is not rated as potable. No issues at all using it for your washing machine. Somehow we have to change peoples aversions to using it, so much water is wasted in our sewerage systems as a carrying 'vessel'.

You will get used to it.

For the five years up untilAugust, I worked near Wesley College on St. Kilda road.

My daily commute averaged 75 minutes each way. (Walk 500 metres to local station, train to South Yarra, Train to Prahran/Windsor, walk 1100 metres or catch tram (6, 64, 5).) On a good day 65 minutes ...

So you cant drink the tap water ?? So you have two water lines in to the house ??
You drink the normal tap water, the same as everyone else. But we also have purple recycled water taps for certain purposes.
Its required now to have the recycled water, particularly in new developments.

These are the taps out front; the purple one has a special detachable handle so people cant accidentally drink it.
