Japan on tsunami alert after powerful quake - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
The US Geological Survey has reported the quake to be a magnitude of 7.4 at a depth of 33 kilometres, 333km from Sendai.
A warning for a one-metre tsunami was issued for the coast of Miyagi prefecture in north-eastern Japan.
People are being urged to move to higher ground.
Initial reports put the epicentre near to that of the March 11, 2011 quake that sparked a devastating tsunami.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no risk of a Pacific-wide tsunami from the quake.
Hope it turns out to be OK.

Reporting that the maximum tsunami in Miyagi prefecture was 0.2 metres so things seem OK.

Now 1 metre at Ayukawa.Sendai expects it at 1830 local time.Now 1810.

Glad thing are OK. A mate was waiting for a flight back to MEL at NRT when it hit. Posted that it was 'scary' and haven't heard any more so I guess he's in the air (assuming there was no major flight disruption).
