I cancelled my Amex Velocity in Nov last year - I suppose that makes me ineligible for the new 100k Velocity offer?

Hi all – I would like to confirm American Express’ policies on eligibility for bonus points for existing cardholders.

  • Effective 1st April 2017, American Express card members who currently hold or who have previously held any Consumer or Small Business Card product in the previous 18 month period are ineligible for Welcome offers. This includes Consumer Charge, Consumer Credit and Small Business Cards.
  • David Jones American Express Cards are excluded, which means DJ Card members can apply for other Consumer or Small Business Cards and will receive the Welcome Bonus and vice versa as long as they don’t also hold or have held the other Card type in past 18 months.
  • Any card members that hold or have held any Bank-Issued companion Amex Cards (ANZ / NAB / CBA / Westpac) are eligible for Welcome Bonuses.
Hopefully that helps.

Cancelled my Amex QF Ultimate yesterday, now the long wait begins....

They did try to keep me with an offer of 8K QFF points to keep the account open. But in my mind I just kept thinking of the 18 months wait and wanted to get it started ASAP. I guess I could've taken it, then tried to cancel again in another month or two to see if they give me something else. But I'd rather just move on and hopefully get another big bonus once I'm eligible again.

Think that you've taken the smart approach.

Who knows in 6 months time the 18 month rule may change or no longer be enforced.

18 months is a long time for AMEX to be without a potential customer and 8K QFF points is just not worth hanging around for.

unfortunately this doesn't seem to be true.
I asked Amex on FB.
