I am travelling to Nigeria next month for 6 weeks work. Does any one in the Brain's Trust have suggestions on how to get there on One world airlines from Brisbane?

Thanks, Brains Trust. I should have searched for the One World website first. Thirty nine hours in economy sounds like a whole lot of fun - NOT.
Will have to get a script for a box of Clexane.

Being such a neophyte to the Dark Continent - Asia is my usual stomping ground, I was trying to figure going direct west to South Africa & then north - dumb, I know.

Why doesn't Jetstar fly direct to Lagos from Coolangatta?? I am sure there would be lots of demand from Nigerians bringing loads of dollars to Ozzies that have responded to their emails.

Thanks again
Dr P

Sometimes the long way around it actually the more comfortable way, but your idea may not be so silly, just not possible on oneworld. South African has flights over there...

BNE to LOS (and maybe also ABV) is by the look a rather difficult ask, Emirates flys there via DBX. Thats the cheapest shortest option i think.
From SIN you can get to JNB (But you can also do it from Australian cites like Perth i just could not get it to price, maybe need to get to PER and fly from there) This option is using south african airlines

BNE-DBX-LOS - EK (Emirates)
BNE-PER-JNB-LOS - SA (South African) (or BNE-SIN-JNB-LOS)

QF303 flies from perth to Joburg (SA code share i think)... from there maybe another airline.

I am tipping you want to avoid Kenya or Ethiopian airlines right ? :)

Anyway just some thoughts.

I might be doing this same route next year however, dont think I could survive Jetstar all the way. I think the hour drive north to BNE is a much better option.

I would be interested to find out what route and who you decide to go with.

Cheers

If flying economy and via LHR, then I think you should be able to convince the boss to let you have a break in London for at least 24 hours before continuing on to LOS. Any boss that would not allow that is, in my opinion, not worth working for.

If you want to save some time then it would be possible to travel SYD-JNB-SYD on QF63/64 on a B744 and JNB-LOS-JNB on SA60/61 on an A343. This should cut the travel time down considerably. One drawback is that SA is no longer part of Oneworld but it is a member of Star Alliance.

Has anyone heard more on the proposed continuation of the QF/SA codeshare arrangements for earning QFF points. Would this only cover AUS-JNB or include other African destinations?

Clexane might be a tad bit of overkill?
Unless of course DVT et al have been a problem.

Aspirin should do just fine for the average person.

Or a J class seat..... :D

the current codeshare is authorised until 31 Dec, and this is for PER/SYD-JNB. I would expect that if it were proposed to continue this, that it would be restricted to those services. They will need to be applying soon if they wish to coninue the codeshare arrangements

Update - turns out they have applied - see http://www.iasc.gov.au/pubs/iascpp4255.pdf. Interesting they are planning to have premium economy on SYD-JNB by May 2008 (although this won't be part of the codeshare)
