Guys,

I know there are some tricks when transfering at TBIT QF to QF, could someone be so kind as to bring me up to date. Are there any priority lanes for WP's?

Thanks

SPRUCE:D

No priority lanes; just make sure you take the TBIT Transit lanes after passing the luggage redeposit area. (ISTR signs indicating QF107 to New York).

Transferring from T4 to TBIT is very easy. The Qantas shuttle bus leaves opposite gate 46 every half an hour from T4 to TBIT. Alternatively, you can walk which takes about five minutes. However, walking is not the best option as then you will need to pass through security again at TBIT which can take a long time.
Also note that there are no food options past security in TBIT other that a couple of bars, so if you want a meal etc, have it at T4 (Chilli’s 2 is great...!) Also, the Qantas Club (OneWorld Lounge) in TBIT is rubbish. No windows and it gets extremely busy with QF, BA and CX passengers.
When I go through LAX, I stay at the American Airlines Admirals/Flagship Lounge opposite gate 40 in T4 until the last minute before transferring. Although you have to pay for food and drinks (you will get two free drink coupons upon entry – if you want more, just leave and come back 10 minutes later and they will forget that they have already given you vouchers...), the lounge is much nicer with a great view of the Apron and a quiet area down the end. So stay there until about 1 hour till your flight, then get the shuttle across.

Is this a recent enhancemnent? I don't remember ever having to pay for food or drinks at any AA Flagship Lounge.

Well, i suppose as a Plat member, you will have access to the AA Flagship lounge, I am only Gold so I have to pay for my drinks.

Those poor AAdvantage members, regardless of thier tier level, still have to pay for Admirals Club. Even the Exec Plat members (Emerald) have to pay and only have access to other OneWorld lounges provided they are not travelling to or from North America.

Actually the OP is referring to a TBIT to TBIT transfer; something I have not done (since a horrible QF108/QF94 transit some years ago).

I actually avoid TBIT-TBIT in the evenings, preferring T4-TBIT as the Flagship Lounge at T4 is more comfortable for me than the oneworld First Lounge at TBIT.

Personally, if I were an SG I would head to TBIT avoiding the T4 A/C as the TBIT business Lounge would be more useful to me than the A/C - even though you can return to the service desk upstairs (you don't have to leave and re-enter) and ask for more drink chits .

Depends when the flight is, over the U.S summer months QF 108 from JFK will arrive into T4, and depart to SYD from TBIT.

If that's the case, it even worse for me, as it was a T4 to TBIT transfer where I had my issue! I try to avoid using QF108 from JFK to LAX these days.

Note that for a 22:30 or later flight, QF would generally start boarding at ¾ hours beforehand and it can take 15 minutes to get to the gate from the TBIT lounges. This is one of the reasons I like to allow 3+ hours for LAX transits.

The flight doesn't swap terminals between seasons. TBIT has been the new home for QF107/108 for nearly 2 years.

If your connecting from QF108 to QF94 you'll disembark straight into the departures area at TBI as opposed to going down escalators to customs - you won't have to clear security again.

Yer it would be a real pain flying JFK-SYD and having to change terminals at the stop over in LAX. SFO could be a good alternative, then an AA connection onto JFK. SFO is much newer than LAX.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon perspective), that seems to be changing again, according to Fly - At the Airport - Airport Guide - Los Angeles International Airport

Tom Bradley International Terminal
Qantas operated non-stop flights to and from Sydney (QF11/QF12), Melbourne (QF93/94), New York (107/108) and arrivals from Brisbane and Auckland/Melbourne (QF25 and QF15) operate from this terminal.
Please Note: From 5 July 2010 QF108 from New York will arrive into Los Angeles at T4 and depart for Sydney out of Tom Bradley International Terminal.

According to my flight information for travel in August, I arrive into T4 on QF 108, and depart to SYD on QF 108 from TBIT....

Yep!

It be arriving on a 332 into T4 and departing on a 744 from TBIT. Scheduled in at 22:10 and out at 23:50.

If on schedule that does not give a lot of time catch the T4 A/C air, catch the bus (22:30, 23:00), check the TBIT lounge air then board (which would comment ~23:05).

In any case, it's something I endeavour to avoid these days.
