Any tips for flying from Singapore to London on QF31 in economy.

Never been on a 13 hour flight before in economy.

Longest i have been was 10 hours in Business class from Tokyo to LA.

QF31 SIN-LHR is an overnight flight. So I assume you will want to sleep as much as possible. If you have trouble sleeping, perhaps see your doctor and ask his advice on medication to help promote sleeping. Ask him/her about Stilnox (in Australia) or Ambien (US brand name for the same thing).

The aircraft will have personal IFE, but may not have AVOD installed. So you can expect to spend some time watching a movie or two. A good book can help some people pass the time.

Get up and walk around regularly. If travelling on your own, I would be seeking a seat in D or G which are the centre section aisles. These will have least chance of having someone next to you needing to climb out over you while you are sleeping, while also giving you easy access to get up and walk around.

No AVOD on QF31 last week (Thursday), makes sense since it is a three class service.

AVOD is way overdue. Can't they afford it now that they are cutting maintenance costs?

Nah. Maintenance cost cuts are for Geoff's next bonus payment!

Is not the FDA investigating side effects of Ambien?

As with any medication, do your own research and consult your medical professional.

And I would suggest that anyone needing to use something like Ambien regularly for over a year (per the example in that link) has more medical or psychological issues that need to addresses than just difficulty sleeping - but I am not a medical professional.

I take Stilnox frequently, as I work shiftwork. I take it 1 in 8 days (shift cycle).

I can't recommend it enough. I've tried Temazepan (or however you spell it) and it was so much better.

Stilnox is approved for aircrew/atc duties in the Air Force (that's why I take it) because you are good to go eight hours after taking it. You won't feel drowsy. And you will still wake up in the middle of the night if you hear a loud noise etc - so you're not really 'drugged' . It just helps you get to sleep.

But yeah, see your doctor (I guess you have to to get it).

I remember last time I went to the UK via LA (15 + 11 hours) and lets just say I wish I had more that those useless natural pills I got. The stuff I got from LAX on the way home kicked cough, but I don't remember what it was (it was a while ago).
