Time for a new safety video QF?

The part about the safety video that I find rather silly is right near the end. Word to the effect of..

“Now it’s to put all your things in the overhead locker or under the seat in front etc etc…”

By the time they get to that part of the video you’re often well into the taxi (on domestic) and not a good time to stand up to get to the locker.

The fact that very few people stand up probably indicates that very few people are listening.
It could also be a prompt that when cabin crew do their final check and ask to place one of your items in the overhead locker during taxi, you must comply.

Why can we only have one version? Run the current one and Bluey at random, or on odd/even flight numbers etc. Would extend the life of both versions.
Whilst I like the idea of more than one, so it isn't repetitive, the reality of having so many videos made and loaded wouldn't make it so practical. Even with the one, there is something like 100 different versions taking into account aircraft type, languages, domestic, international and so on.

I think you’re on the money here @RichardMEL 👍
QF tend to go with a wide appeal theme and Bluey does have that at the moment. Question is would the creators of Bluey want to be that closely associated with the stuttering brand that is QF at the moment? 😊

I think NZ have had some great safety videos (LOTR and Sports Illustrated tie up) but also some shockers (‘It’s Kiwi’ rap 🤢), so maybe give their creative team a miss. I did also like the TK videos when they were having a tie up with Lego (for a couple of years around Lego movie releases), so I think the animated option can work well: plenty of other airlines do it well.

The castle (yes!!!)

Well very Australian for sure (I'm not sure if an airline wants something associated with a fight against airport expansion, but I digress :) ) though probably lost on many internationals....

though I do think K&K has some sort of international exposure?

"Look at moi buckling my seatbelt...."

not bad ideas

The naked one wasn't bad either - certainly got pax attention

Although a few years out of date, personally don't mind the current video.
That being said, getting to the stage where you can only be 100 for a so long, and a refresh is needed.

well ABC has the Australian rights and I'm sure they wouldn't say no to money. the production company though... good question. I don't know.

Agree with all your examples. I meant to mention the TK/Lego tie in earlier too. re NZ vids I thought the Betty White one bombed a bit too, but not as bad as the rap one lol (and speaking of rap, thank goodness the AA one was just replaced with all that percussion ugh). Another reasonably clever one I thought was the BA one with all the personalities "auditioning" for the safety video - That was quite fun.

While they may not have seatback screens, they may still have general in cabin screens? I'm not too sure on that but it's a fair point.

I'm not sure what QF is planning for the A32Xs.

I'm fairly certain the new narrowbody aircraft AA have, that don't have individual screens, do not have cabin screens either (the "use your own device" generation of aircraft). If they do have the cabin screens, they're not used.

AA do audio only briefings on these aircraft. It's a different audio track, not just the soundtrack to the normal video. Or it's delivered from a script from a FA.

Which one was that - this one?

I thought this was one of the better ones, short, sharp and to the point.

yep @justinbrett - that's the one. I found it jarring (but I suppose hardish to ignore? lol). The content is fine, just the soundtrack was not for me. :)

And you're right re AA A321's - and I suspect QF will definitely prefer to go down that path I agree.

lol. well yeah OK some things don't always translate - but then again how many imports from the US do we get that make references that don't always fully translate for us? it goes both ways. Quite amusing really. Luckily cricket bats won't be part of a safety video (we already went through that horrible one!)

I had to question it because I would never associate that video with "percussion". I'd never noticed it before, and I did a stack of flights during this era. Maybe it's less noticeable with an AA serve of Gin & Tonic like I usually would have? (AA serve being fill the cup with gin, dispose of the tonic water down the sink)

It's actually one of my favourite "normal" safety videos - it doesn't go off weird tangents like most airlines. Literally the whole video is the same content and pacing as a manual audio briefing. They used to do Christmas (holiday) versions too back in the day - I guess that budget dried up.

As far as I'm aware AS don't have a video? It's always done via audio from what I can tell.

I didn't know what other word to use except percussion. My bad I guess. but you figured the one I meant all the same :D

I do tend to agree that they should be too the point and not endlessly long with extras we don't need like total falsehoods like "Your aircraft has great coffee too" and the like, but by the same token trying to think of less regular flyers who perhaps need to know this stuff more than we jaded frequent flyers.... well maybe that kind of thing helps. I don't know.

(also noting that I bet as many of we jaded frequent flyers might actually screw up as much as anyone if/when push comes to shove... like yeah the life jacket is under the seat/by the seat etc maybe some of us might still fumble at it. I was actually thinking about this on a flight the other day noticing the numbers o people NOT paying attention... but I digress).

I like the BA one (the comic relief one) - but it is not very re-watchable. They must have had it for 5+ years, and again some minor updates, but the same jokes get a bit old.

I think the more theming you put into them the shorter the shelf life.

I'm actually surprised AA updated theirs (the old one was released in 2016) - and it was supposed to be replaced with this new one in 2020, but they decided to hold off (a bit like QF - the centenary video probably would have only lasted the 100th year if covid never happened, but because it was barely used, they'll be thrashing it for years to come).

One thing I noticed watching the two AA videos, the old one has a good feel of everything moving forward, not dragging (both with the music and the way the FA never stops walking in the video - kind of reminds me of Julia Gillard's Moving Forward). The new one, which has more smooth but somewhat dramatic music, feels a bit laggy to me compared to the old one - especially with so much of it featuring people standing still whilst they do the panoramic shots.

reminds me of the first time I think, traveling First on the A380 on Qantas . The FA did the spiel with the various options of where the lifejacket was depending on Cabin class, then walked around. I realised that I hadn’t actually understood where my lifejacket was, so I stopped her and asked. Poor thing, I think it was the first flight she had in the First cabin, and she didn’t have a clue where my life jacket was. We found out together and had a very nice flight after that. 😊

My vote is to be as short as possible. Can't stand the current one that goes on and on and on ....

Spend the money that would have been spent on ridiculous productions, do a cheap cartoon one like other airlines and put the money into actually getting your planes flying on time!
