Tight Qantas connection in Brisbane

I am flying to London from Sydney via Brisbane and LAX (hideous but I am quite patient, travelling alone which is a luxury, and was able to pay completely on points, so it's OK).

My internal flight from SYD to BRIS lands at 1640, and my departure to LAX is at 1805.

I booked this directly with Qantas and both the above flights are with them, but the connection seems very short, and it is domestic to international, including baggage transfer.

Any thoughts on whether I should ask them to bring forward my domestic flight, their track record in making these links? I am worried either me or my bags won't make it.

If it were inbound I wouldn't worry, but given it's outbound D to I, that's not something I'd be happy with. If that SYD to BNE flight is delayed, cancelled, consolidated etc, it's potentially going to mess up 2 long hauls.

Yes they will still get you there, eventually. But this may well mess with your plans.

Ring up and see if you can get on an earlier domestic flight.

And if QF refuse to change your domestic flight turn up at SYD AP and ask the domestic check-in for international connections if you can take an earlier flight to BNE. If possible allow enough time for a couple of flights so there is a better chance to get there on an earlier flight.

I would say that you need an earlier flight SYD-BNE

When commuting, I used 3 hours as my minimum. There's no way I would go with this.

It’s doable if nothing goes wrong. But at least something will probably go wrong.

And there’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush as you run through the terminal not knowing if the aircraft door has already closed.

Your checked luggage will catch up with you at some point.

My experience is that the call centre is unlikely to move you.

Turning up at the airport in plenty of time for an earlier flight to BNE is likely to yield results provided there are seats available on that flight.

The other option… if the 1640 is delayed, or looking like it’s going to be delayed, you could ask to be transferred on to the non-stop SYD-LAX, which currently leaves at 1745.

I believe Minimum Connection Time (MCT) for Brisbane Domestic to International is 90 mins. You currently only have 85 mins in your connection, so it is not a valid connection. Has one of the flight times changed since it was booked? Or were the two sectors booked separately and on separate tickets? If it is all on one ticket, the call and point out that the connection is not valid per the MCT for the connection and then they are more likely to try to move your domestic flight earlier.

My mum is doing a 90 minute MCT on VA tomorrow. Not sure how Brisbane does it but apparently standard practice.

It’s 75 minutes for QFd to QFi. You have to read all of the lines not just the header which is generic.

If your dep. to LAX is QF15, it departs @ 2005, then you have plenty of time.
