With so many months since Tigerair stopped flying, I'd completely forgotten that I was subscribed to the Tigerair email list. But tonight I received a final "Tigermail". It wasn't promoting any cheap flights - those days are long gone - but rather a poignant "thank you and farewell".

Thought this was a nice touch. Perhaps a little strange in this corporate world we live in.

I only took 1 Tiger flight from Syd to Mel on a Fri pm when Qf and Va fares were very expensive and award seats were not available. It was on time and got me from A to B cheaply. Also bought ticket with one of those Amex cash back offers :)
Always sad so see an airline bite the dust...

I feel very sad for the people that lost their livelihoods because of the overall mismanagement of VA. It’s awful.

But unfortunately this airline was a disaster from start to finish, there was no way it could continue. Too much baggage and with VA2 moving down market, not enough distance or space in the market.

I still remember the "Airways" TV show, which didn't exactly portray the airline positively. And I think many of us still remember the CASA grounding.

I think the airline did improve since those days, and I am grateful for the competition they brought. I must've used them quite a few times for JQ price beats over the years. I flew Tiger too a few times when it made sense to do so, particularly on routes like CBR-MEL where Tiger might be $50 and QF would be $250.

There was nothing particularly inspiring to me about their product, but they had their place in the market. It's a shame they never really made money.

To use after the purchase of Rex!

Although it may be a joke, I can't see Bain being that dumb. They are able to see the tactics of their Singaporean PE counterpart that is funding the REX Jet operations.

At most they'll pick up parts of REX at a liquidation sale for a quid. That's if it gets that far for REX.

The ABN is still active, so who ever wants to pay, can restart a flying fourth class totally no frills air service in Aust, if they really wanted to.
Think about it, it would have sitting like the air force used to have on their Caribous, side by side, nothing to eat, nothing to drink, no loos, no cushioning on seats, no air conditioning, no heating...
What a name, eh, ULCC, ... wonder whose idea that was/was that.
Some one with a dry wit, or a dry sense of humour, or someone with deep pockets, that we do not know of, waiting in the wings, for when VA3/4 really goes kaput, when Bain will throw in the towel.
Someone is definitely doing something in the background.
