I've admittedly only been looking at MEL-OOL on Tiger at the moment, and have only found fares (for 2 pax) on 1 date during the period, either all sold out or very limited release of dates. If you look at the sort of free publicity these sales buy - release say 50 seats at ridiculous price and get free PR on national news - then it's a good reason. Consumer looks, and either has one of two responses, anger they can't find such fares, or realisation that they can get $49 o.w. fares on same sector which isn't bad so buy them instead. Very clever marketing.

Ok fair enough. It is not just Tiger it is also JQ and DJ.

Sometimes I just like to get away at short notice and look for airfares on these carriers but their airfares are not much better than QF. Surely the flights are not full, probably at 70%-80% capacity. Yet they persevere with higher airfares so that they do not set a precedent.

It's interesting that Jetstar have only matched for May. That's only a small portion of the Tiger fare. What about double the difference?

I've looked at a couple of dates in November, Feb and March and can't get any of the so called "cheap fares". I would imagine OOL-MEL would be quite popular though.

I just read apparently most of the dec-jan fares went pretty quick around 6am.

I have to admit I have wasted hours over the past few years trying to get these type of "Great Offers".
It would be nice...maybe just once if the ACCC popped by and asked TT/JQ & DJ to validate the seats sold and the spread of actual availabilityfor 1 of these offers.Just to validate that is was a "reasonable amount" without undue restrictions.
The word Bait advertising, which is illegal springs to mind.
I dont mind things like mide week fares..at least they are honest that are are avail on those days rather than hide behind the standard BullS**t "seast are limited blah blah blah".
I also agree with previous posters that it seems once you get within 3-4 weeks the pricepoint variances between all the carriers seems much closer across a travel day

I think it'spart of the Tiger model. Cheap sale fares are generally way out in the future somewhere (where they can put a reasonable amount of seats on). Clsoer to the time when more seats have sold, no need to sell such cheap seats,

Tiger have got quite rapacious of late.

I used to fly them a lot, but not anymore. With the +++ (eg "taxes" and $25 for a pre-allocated seat, etc, etc), they are no longer all that competitive in Asia.

Same will happen in Australia, no doubt. Then we'll have the "3 airline policy"...

Do we know what terminals Tiger is operating out of... I'm assuming Virgin will be forced to share??

I believe they will be operating out of the temporary terminal at MEL, similar to when DJ first started. Can't confirm though.

Melbourne they will be out of Terminal 4, the old DJ building. All the signage is in place. TIGER T4

Maybe we should talk like this and finish everything with an exclamation mark!

Don't they know that Australian's always say everything as if they're asking a question? I think Stephen Fry does something like that in one of his routines. NB, it's called High rising terminal.
