Are we there yet?

So I am back at the Taphouse. Getting to be a regular now.

Order another schooner of new, Amex gets to see the light, find a seat, take out the laptop and start to think what am I doing here.

So I have one eye on the departure board, one eye on my laptop and another eye on the gorgeous bird sitting next to me. I think it was the other way around though as her and her and friend were already sitting there and I sat next to them.

Can't keep my eye off the departure board. Did I really expect Tiger to keep it up to date? It was not up to date earlier but I guess they are having more than their fair share of problems right now. Kept getting up and going out into terminal to look down to gate 33 but couldn't tell what was happening. Did this 4-5 times as I was paranoid of missing flight.

I did not want to push this new friendship with Tiger too much so after about 15 minutes trying to relax I finished my beer, packed up my laptop and headed down to gate 33. The ladies next to me had left anyway.

Did not wait too long and they were ready to board again. It appears I have been given a reprieve. ;) As previously there are people everywhere when boarding is about to start. But this still feels civilised to me. I have seen worse.

Boarding is extremely efficient again and it is getting close to 3:50pm or 2 hours after original scheduled departure where we start to push back. Flight time was around 1h 10m which means I still get to BNE with plenty of time for the T-Bus to the DFO. ;)

Deja vu? At some point after boarding and waiting to taxi I fell asleep again. Obviously still tired from the late night the night before and that last beer would have worked wonders. And again apologies to anyone for any snoring while I was asleep.

I managed to wake up just as the cabin crew were about to start the food and beverage service and you do not need to twist my arm for a beer. The CSM (is this the right term on Tiger?) was a very pleasant lady, smile on her face and very professional. I ordered a Tiger beer and a cup with some ice. I really do love icy cold beer. ;)

Rather uneventful flight and the captain did announce that we were due to arrive in BNE ~5:15pm. Perfect.

Deboarding was again efficient and I thanked the crew for their wonderful job as I was getting off the aircraft.

Walking through the terminal I did notice that this flight was turning around to SYD but the next arrival from SYD and then the last departure to SYD were both cancelled. I am guessing the crew would be out of hours by the time they could finish the last leg. I really did feel sorry for the people on the last departure of the night from both SYD and BNE and think myself extremely lucky that I chose the earlier flight.

I managed to get to my apartment ~7:15pm as the bus, bus, train connection did not quite gel.

I was very tired and managed to get through this experience relatively unscathed.

I will follow with a summary but let me just say that the crew were very professional at all times throughout this ordeal and they handled this situation very well. Not sure what would happen to the people who's flight was cancelled but cannot really blame the crew for that one.

Very interesting read JohnK, would you fly TT again?? I'm tempted to book them once in a blue moon but I always steer back to VA.

I would fly Tiger again but the conditions need to be right and the travel not essential.

I loved the experience but just worried that without the required aircraft any flow-on effects can have serious repercussions.

What if I am booked on last SYD-BNE flight Sunday night and that is cancelled and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday flights are relatively full? I cannot get to work unless I pay walk up prices on QF or VA.

So from my part requires further thought.

Great TR and I will be avoiding last flights of the day like the plague. I've never flown TT but that $10 fare special could convince me to give them a try.

From just your experiences, I would have the idea that flights in the middle of the day, with more flights both before and after, would be safe from most issues and flights at the end of the day (maybe even the start) could have the biggest issues. The flow on effects from a delay at Tiger are clearly more detrimental than at Qantas and Virgin Australia, who would look after you.

A most enjoyable read, JohnK! Although, I have not been convinced of giving TT another go yet. I did it once and that was quite enough for me, thank you very much.

Flew Tiger from BNe to MEL on Wednesday afternoon flight. Very efficient, good staff and as in row 5c was delighted to be able to use the forward lavatory, a pleasure reserved for Business class passengers on Virgin and the area is barricaded by a red cord across the passageway.
On one flight I actually removed it and used the front lav as figured I could always ask the staff which they would prefer - a long wait and an accident to clean up if I joined the queue at the back of the plane or that I use the front lavatory in a timely manner. not sure where virgin stands on Occupational Health and Safety on this one. Any one have any knowledge of this J class toilet tactic?
Tiger was punctual. Still a long walk to baggage collection which seems a little like a large chook pen. JoyV

This J class toilet tactic as you put it is also used by Qantas. (You asked). Other than that I'm not sure of the relevance of the information to the topic.

OHS? Are you kidding? Enlighten us, what is the OHS issue?

BTW it's now called WHS. Workplace health and safety. Our WHS manager has corrected me at least a dozen times.

Only for those states that have tied in with the Federal laws, Vic and WA are still OH&S. Tiger having an AOC with a Victorian address would be very much OH&S centric.

They don't really have the option not to change as this is one of the agreed areas of national uniform. DG transport and road rules being 2 others. So if they haven't changed yet they will have to eventually.

The Victorian government has not agreed to change to the current harmosnised WHS rules as they stand. #rebels LOL

http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/media...as-laws-to-hit-victorian-businesses-hard.html

However, they did agree to nationally uniform laws in this area, under the previous OHS regime. The political games they're playing don't change the existing agreement. Besides I'm only talking about the name.

Not to mention that tiger operates in "commonwealth places" and hence is subject to the applicable laws for those places.

You guys are still ahead of me, Tiger just doesn't do it for me.

I would be the last person to praise a LCC carrier but I was impressed with Tiger and they have dedicated staff and seem to handle the situation quite well but unfortunately they do not have the fleet or the schedules to suit my commuting.

If you were going to see a friend/family for a weekend and did not need to prepay for accommodation then I would highly recommend Tiger....
