Tiger? Nothing could possibly go wrong.

I had spent just over $40 on beverages which was not really necessary. Still a saving of around $60 on Qantas or Virgin airfares.

Depends if you mainly purchase ahead of time in sales or late though in that sense.

Glad it worked out, this far at least.

1000 or more FF point is worth $40ish to me :) Plus lounge access etc etc

Totally understand your point but I have squillions of points I am not using and dont need to buy any more points.

The way I see it is I saved ~$100 by booking Tiger. I did not need to spend that much alcohol and certainly did not need any food.

Back where we started!

So I left the comfort of the Taphouse to head down to gate 33.

People everywhere and boarding about to start. Sit back and wait for the majority to board and when the final call is announced I head over to board. I must say that the boarding process is very efficient. There does not appear to be scrums or mad dashes.

Walk through aerobridge and there are a few people still in queue. Get on board and make my way to 4C with still a few people to board. This is a full flight today and cabin crew walking around re-arranging bags and stowing handbags etc.

Getting close to departure and the front door is closed. The cabin crew begin the safety demonstration but we do not push back. A few minutes pass by and the captain announces there will be a short delay the aerobridge is jammed and cannot be retracted. They will try and retract it just enough so we can push back and take off. The door is released and the maintenance workers arrive.

At some point during the wait I fell asleep. I was very tired from the late night the night before. Apologies to anyone for any snoring while I was asleep.

I wake up a little startled that we have not moved. Still on the ground. Front door still open. Maintenance crew still in aerobridge. Turn around to person next to me to ask for the time and it is 2:15pm. We were supposed to take off at 1:50pm. Another announcement by the captain they have not been able to to retract the aerobridge and the delay could be at least 2 hours.

At this point I started thinking of all the possibilities. How am I getting to BNE? Do I go and find out what a walk up price airfare is for a VA or even QF flight? I knew the answer to that one but did no harm in thinking. Even if Tiger could offer a seat the next day it would be OK. But this is a full flight.

At soon after the cabin crew were going around the cabin offering water to passengers which I thought was a great idea. The person next to me wanted to use toilet so I got up and waited and then used the front toilet myself.

Another announcement follows shortly after that we have to disembark. From the rear door. It felt like we were waiting an eternity. Passengers slowly collecting their belongings and disembarking. Somehow no one is in a hurry. Eventually we were able to get out with no further information. It was getting close to 3:00pm now.

So back where we started. As I was one of the last people to leave aircraft I got a chance and asked gate attendant what was happening. She really did not know. I did not want to wait around here so I told her I was going to the Taphouse for a beer and she asked "Can I go with you?". I invited her for a drink but she didn't follow me. ;)

So off I head to the Taphouse....

You should know me better than most AFFers Doc. Did you think I was going to get away with Tiger that easily? ;)

Final instalment tomorrow.

So far sounding pretty much like all your domestic flights. Although de-boarding is a nice change from "stuck in lounge, 45-90 min delay".....

I think I need to start commuting SYD-MEL and see if the delays follow me there. ;)

I must say I have not de-boarded that often in hundreds of flights. It was handled quite well though.

JohnK you have mentioned several times you always board last. Can I assume you don't have hand luggage if you do this? If I boarded last there would be no space anywhere to put my hand luggage (especially on TT) and it would have to go under my seat, limiting my personal space and making for a more uncomfortable flight. One of the great benefits of priority boarding is that you can put your hand luggage directly above your head and be able to exit quickly.

On this trip he specifically downsized his hand luggage to meet the requirements of the ticket, not wanting to be caught out with excess charges. I believe he had a laptop and stowed it under the seat in front, says so up the thread.

At least the aerobridge is not TTs fault.
It's how an airline recovers from these situations however...

Domestically I generally travel with a laptop bag which is bulky but fits under seat in front. The rest is checked luggage. On this trip I put laptop only in normal carry bag and stayed under 10kgs and also made it under seat comfortably without impeding on leg room.

International flights I carry the least amount possible in carry on bag. Usually a change of clothes, just in case.

Trying to pack for tomorrow. ;)

And tomorrow starts again....
