Back where we started!
So I left the comfort of the Taphouse to head down to gate 33.
People everywhere and boarding about to start. Sit back and wait for the majority to board and when the final call is announced I head over to board. I must say that the boarding process is very efficient. There does not appear to be scrums or mad dashes.
Walk through aerobridge and there are a few people still in queue. Get on board and make my way to 4C with still a few people to board. This is a full flight today and cabin crew walking around re-arranging bags and stowing handbags etc.
Getting close to departure and the front door is closed. The cabin crew begin the safety demonstration but we do not push back. A few minutes pass by and the captain announces there will be a short delay the aerobridge is jammed and cannot be retracted. They will try and retract it just enough so we can push back and take off. The door is released and the maintenance workers arrive.
At some point during the wait I fell asleep. I was very tired from the late night the night before. Apologies to anyone for any snoring while I was asleep.
I wake up a little startled that we have not moved. Still on the ground. Front door still open. Maintenance crew still in aerobridge. Turn around to person next to me to ask for the time and it is 2:15pm. We were supposed to take off at 1:50pm. Another announcement by the captain they have not been able to to retract the aerobridge and the delay could be at least 2 hours.
At this point I started thinking of all the possibilities. How am I getting to BNE? Do I go and find out what a walk up price airfare is for a VA or even QF flight? I knew the answer to that one but did no harm in thinking. Even if Tiger could offer a seat the next day it would be OK. But this is a full flight.
At soon after the cabin crew were going around the cabin offering water to passengers which I thought was a great idea. The person next to me wanted to use toilet so I got up and waited and then used the front toilet myself.
Another announcement follows shortly after that we have to disembark. From the rear door. It felt like we were waiting an eternity. Passengers slowly collecting their belongings and disembarking. Somehow no one is in a hurry. Eventually we were able to get out with no further information. It was getting close to 3:00pm now.
So back where we started. As I was one of the last people to leave aircraft I got a chance and asked gate attendant what was happening. She really did not know. I did not want to wait around here so I told her I was going to the Taphouse for a beer and she asked "Can I go with you?". I invited her for a drink but she didn't follow me.
So off I head to the Taphouse....
