Details on fares and schedules have not yet been released, although tickets are expected to go on sale later this week for flights starting on December 9.
I'm sure a lot of Canberrans (including some of my friends & family) will be cheering.
I don't normally care if Tiger is flying a route or not, but their entry to the CBR-MEL market is most welcome from my point of view! The QF/VA monopoly has meant airfares on this route, for a ~40 minute flight, have been ridiculously high. I'm sure a lot of Canberrans (including some of my friends & family) will be cheering.
Even if you don't fly Tiger, one can only hope that this puts some pressure on QF to drop fares to at least "normal" levels.
Finally competition has returned to Canberra. Three cheers to Chief Minister Andrew Barr for making things happen.
It will possibly mean less Virgin flights into Canberra though remembering Virgin's stake in Tiger.
If so, more strange business decisions.

ILooks promising!
Flights will commence on 8 December 2016, with times as follows:
Mon/Tue/Wed/Sat:
MEL 10:30 - CBR 11:35
CBR 12:05 - 13:15
Thur/Fri/Sun:
MEL 17:35 - CBR 18:40
CBR 19:10 - MEL 20:20
Because of the nature of the Canberra market, highest household income and all that stuff, I think Virgin knows it would have spend a motza to try and get QF passengers off Melbourne and Sydney flights out of Canberra. So I'm wondering if they are going to go for the bottom end and soak up people who can't and wont pay the QF fares.
And if their costs are truly lower on tiger, they may make more money even if the fares are lower to the consumer.
