From Travel Today
Tiger Australia is catching up with the rest of the world and embracing the low cost model but it still lags behind other Asia Pacific regions, the boss of Tiger Airways Australia has said. Compared to markets like India – which has eight low cost airlines – the local industry is under represented, Shelley Roberts said.
“Australia is the fourth largest domestic market in Asia Pacific and one of the least fragmented,” Roberts said.
Australia is “starting to behave like the rest of the world” but there is room for more players, she stated. Roberts vowed Tiger would not introduce lounges, strike interline
deals or chase the premium market as it would drive up prices.
We are single minded,” she said.
“We have turned a seat into a box
of cornflakes. It’s a commodity.
Domestic airfares have decreased by 23 per cent since Tiger came to Australia.”
I can't see how we could be compared to the Indian market as low cost travel there would be a luxury for most of the population not to mention the much larger population.
And the comment "We have turned a seat into a box
of cornflakes. It’s a commodity."
Just shows how they consider their customers. No wonder they don't worry about customer service.
Finally how long will people tolerate being treated like cattle by these low cost airlines. And are they low cost. By the time you add baggage, a meal/drink and IFE, it is sometimes about the same as a full service carrier.
