Yesterday I have booked new flights with Tiger, now under
the luggage options, they have added

1. Hand-luggage - Online Check-in - Free !
2. Hand-luggage - Airport Check-in - $0.00 AUD
3. 15kg luggage - Airport Check-in - [the usual amount]
etc
etc

I think logic implies that going forward OLCI will be free, and airport check-in will be
charged, which is the same as Ryanair. Tiger always charge $0 for something new first, later on
they will put in a charge, just like when they first started here 15kg was free.

OLCI is a big change for Tiger, it equals free name changes  and no 45 mins check-in , (assuming they have less delays and cancellations)

How so?

If you purchase a ticket under John Doe, John Doe has to fly, you can’t just send Jane Doe :?:

Sam,

Like QF OLCI it does not require the use of ID.

That does effectively mean anyone can fly on that ticket.

I am saying from the JQ experience...

For JQ if John Doe has selected no checked baggage and on-line check in,
John or Jane can print the boarding pass at home / office, and Jane can rock up to the gate with the printed boarding pass, and the check in crew will scan the boarding pass and let Jane board the plane, at no stage Jane's photo ID is checked....

Unless Tiger change their current practise, (no check of photo ID at the gate).
The is the same as free name change...

Well Web checkin is now officially out (see their home page). I am flying Tiger next Saturday morning so we will give it a try, hopefully I can actually select seats, even though I have no seat allocation when purchasing the ticket.

Certainly I think web checkin is the way to go in the future for Tiger to reduce costs, as well as keeping their airfare low.

OLCI with Tiger gets rid of the 45min window...perfect for the odd occasion when for some reason I am only parking the car at T-20

Now if only they improve their OTP I may consider them in future...

Just did web check in today for my Saturday morning flight SYD-ADL. Got allocated by Tiger seat 2B and 2C (sequence: 2 and 3). Excellent. I have never seat this far front for Economy class, and this include all full cost airlines with OLCI (QF gave me row 29 for flying the same route with early OLCI!). We do not have checked in luggage. Hopefully that also mean quick exit.

Of course, what everyone wants is to get selected for the exit row. If no one sit there, someone will surely jump into it.

That is the only setback for sitting that far in front as it is far from the exit row.

In my experience with LCCs, if you haven't paid for an exit row seat they won't let you sit in one. If you jump into one you will most likely be politely asked to go back to your allocated seat.:(

That's all right, I am happy to sit so far front, hopefully I can get out quicker!

Did the OLCI on a return trip ADL-SYD last weekend. Row 1 never gets allocated to OLCI and it goes by sequence number from 2A as far as I can tell. You do not get to choose aisle/window but you will get to sit upfront.

Leaving Adelaide, there was a very explicit announcement to have Photo ID available at the boarding gate. Not so from Sydney but I had mine ready and the gate attendant made a conscious effort to check it.

Sitting up front does have its drawbacks - since the first overhead bin gets taken up by crew storage and the average Tiger passenger has alot more carry on, unless your one of the first ones onboard, you will have to stow your bag a few rows back which is a PITA when it comes to deplaning.

I just did my OLCI for my flight tomorrow, got allocated 2c
(a good seat to view the coughpit before T/A).

will report whether they check photo ID.

I have booked a flight for 42 people (school excursion) departing in 5 days and every time I try to web checkin, I get the "Your reservation has been blocked for Web Checkin" message.
I have called Tiger, and they said to try in another hour (been there, done that). They did confirm that we are eligible for web checkin since we only have carry on and it's a domestic flight.

I have emailed TigerAustraliaPaxInfo .... still waiting for a reply.

Any ideas???
I don't think it's reasonable to charge 42 schoolchildren $25 EACH to check in when it was the computer system's fault.

HELP!!!

Hi staree,

Welcome to AFF.

I cannot help specifically other than to say the issues with Tiger have been well documented here. It seems that so long as everything works they are OK but as soon as there is a problem then it is very hard to resolve.

Next time you talk to them you should raise the issue of airport check-in and discuss waiving the fee. Make sure you get the details of who you talk to.
You have my best wishes at solving the problem. Please let us know how you get on.

I assume that a booking that large wont be available for online checkin
I wouldn't expect a reply from an email address before the flight.
You wont be charged a fee unless you have checked bags.
Carry on baggage is free. Looks like you might have to get to the airport nice and early !

The lady on the phone never mentioned that the group size would be a factor... as for the free check in with carry on only - the website states in its Fees and Charges:

Tiger Airways Australia Domestic Flights - Advanced Booking Charges (Online)
Applicable for all bookings made online from 1st July 2010
Per passenger per flight sector
With Airport Check-in
(Hand luggage only)10kg
(Up to 2 bags with no single bag exceeding 7kg)A$20
However, I'm not sure if it would apply to my group as we booked the tickets over the phone due to the size of the group.

Tuppaware - have you flown with Tiger recently without a fee for carry on only?

I can't give you a Tiger example, but I can give you a Jetstar one.

A few years ago I was taking a large group of people away for the day (Jetsaver Light - carry on only), and had anticipated web-checking everyone in for both the outbound and return, and handing out the boarding passes right before each flight. So, the day before our day trip I logged on to check-in, and the system wouldn't allow it. A quick phone call to Jetstar, and I was advised that their system would not allow a group that size to check-in online, but the very helpful Jetstar rep said that she would split my PNR into several newer ones, dispersing everyone across them, so that each grouping was at or below the maximum cut off level for web check-in.:!: A few minutes later I received my new PNR emails, and straight after that logged into each one in turn, and checked everyone in.

Now when I fly a group of people somewhere, I always split them up over several bookings, with no more than 6 people per booking just to be safe.

I do not know if Tiger's system may have the same logistical issue, but it is possible?! However, IME I doubt that Tiger's phone reps would be as accommodating (or as knowledgeable) as those at Jetstar.

I has been noted somewhere (But I can't specifically recall exactly where I saw it) that if there are more than 9 people on one PNR that you cannot check in online.

The only way around this is to give tiger a call and have them split the PNR up into 7 groups on different PNRs (I think that = 42 pax in total)

If you do that you should have no problems
