Tier points for BA long haul with stopover

How are tier points calculated for long haul flights that involve a stopover?

For example, according to the calculator on the BA website, LHR to SYD is 240 under any of the business code (R, I, J, C, D).

However (at this point in time), no airline flys that route non-stop.

Qantas and BA (resuming next month) fly LHR-SIN-SYD. According to the calculator, that’s 160 for the first leg and 140 for the second leg, totalling 300.

The following ET article appears to say that a return SYD-SIN-LHR flight (where the flight number changes in SIN) would satisfy the 4 annual flights for tier qualification.

The key is either the flight number changing, or you stopping for more than 24 hours, in Singapore.

If you just fly all the way through from SYD-SIN-LHR on QF1 or BA16, without changing planes in Singapore, it's calculated as only one flight and earns 240 tier points in this case.

Changing from BA16 to BA12 would count as 2 sectors and earns more tier points. If you stopped over for at least 24 hours in Singapore and continued on BA16 the next day, you also get the higher earn.
