As many would know TID policies include the following:

A loss that arises because you did not
follow advice in the mass media of a
government or other official body’s
warning:
a) against travel to a particular country or
parts of a country;

Just wondering how this is defined - is it purely for DFAT "Do not travel" or does it also apply to "Reconsider need to travel" which technically could be classified as a warning against travel?

Interesting question and with the lack of responses it may the suggest the answer is not that clear. If I had to take a guess at the interpretation I would go as far as suggesting it would include any type of warning against travelling to a particular destination.

Where are you thinking of going and is it worth the risk?

Looking at Lebanon - so worth the risk. I guess it is one of things you'd only be 100% certain about until you try to make a claim. I could see the case for costs associated with any "unrest" not be covered. But fail to see how a warning should effect standard things (ie lost luggage, run over by a cab etc).

I think the key is that the "loss" must arise because you didn't follow the instructions. So I would see this being related to you suffering a loss (maybe death or injury) if you go to a war zone despite advice not to. I doubt lost luggage etc would be excluded because the loss (in most cases) would be unrelated to the failure to follow instructions.

I remember a long time ago asking this something similar of a travel insurance provider.
me:"what if they DFAT puts out a travel advisory against travel and I cancel my travel?"
them: "well nothing has happened so we can't offer you a claim"
me:"what if i proceed with my travel and something happens over there?"
them: "well then we can't process your claim because a warning has been issued".

Bunch of idiots.
