Dear all,

Thanks in advance for your help again.

My friend is flying PER-HKG-CAN return, but on the way there the layover at HKG is 14 hours and he would like to throw the HKG-CAN segment away and take the train instead. The carrier is Cathay Pacific.

Any suggestions as to how to do it? My suggestions were to check bags to Hong Kong, then when he arrives say he had some urgent business to attend to, but would be taking the CAN-HKG-PER back to PER.

Thanks again!

Dangerous - they will probably cancel the balance of the itinerary after the first "no show".

I agree, very dangerous, better off to try and get an earlier flight if they exist or just wait!

Think again, it'll be a great way to get the rest of their trip cancelled, and while the airline may choose to reinstate the booking, if there's no availability, it'll leave them stranded until there is and they'll also more than likely be forced to pay a reissue fee for the privilege so don't do it.

As posted, not travelling on any segment of a booking is almost certain to result in the remainder of the segments cancelled.

Generally the only sectors that can be "thrown away" as such are those which are the last segment of a booking/PNR - i.e. there's no further segment to cancel.

Call CX and ask them to cancel the segment, that way they don't automatically cancel the CAN-HKG-PER segments. You probably won't receive a refund, but you also won't receive a nasty surprise when you check in for your trip home at CAN.

They may or may not let you given that the price for PER-HKG-CAN ticket maybe cheaper than PER-HKG ticket. So noshowing HKG-CAN is highly not recommended. CX may not allow cancelling that segment either.

CX appear to be particularly nasty with this one with colleagues having real problems in just such a situation.CX even insisting changing to an earlier flight would mean reissuing ticket which would require payment of the fare increase(was a circle Asia bought during the birthday sale).
According to QF they are also trying to do the same to me-want to change the last flight on my upcoming Circle Asia fare also bought during sale.A simple BNE-SYD to position for my next DONE4.I have quoted the OW T&Cs but have not heard back from QF-they sat CX is insisting on a reissue as there are CX segments in the trip.Anyway my TA is handling and I will simply wait until CX sectors are complete and change then.

Aside from the 14 hours wait... a HKG-CAN flight must be farly interesting. It's a total distance of 73 miles. Wonder what it's like??

I believe there are only a couple of flights a day on this sector, morning and night. By both CX and China Southern.

Thanks for all the advice!

I told him about the danger and he decided not to in the end.

And indeed, HKG-CAN is serviced only two times a day by either CX/Dragonair and China South Eastern! ANd a very short flight. The difference was the PER-HKG sale fare was not eligible for miles while the PER-HKG-CAN was =)

Thanks everyone
