When it comes down to it, ID cards are not meant to be for passengers. They are an ASIC and just a government requirement.
Cabin crew wear both ASICS for security reasons and name badges for passengers.
Most remove the ASICS after boarding and put them back on prior to disembarkation.
 
I realise I will be in a minority however I don't have an issue with staff not providing their names.
Not sure if the passengers were asking for their full names
Previously I have worked for a Commonwealth Dept that is loathed and detested and constantly under scrutiny.
My staff would give their first name (they also had name badges ) and never their surname.
The decision was it could turn into a stalker type situation (when landlines and the white pages were more available). Which unfortunately happened more often than people would realise
I also didn't give my surname as I have quite an unusual one. However I would always give my role and my designation to people who asked
As someone above said the passengers could easily identify the staff by the QF flight number which would have been on their booking
I do believe that once a person has requested the name , be it belligerently or not , the situation is not good and likely to escalate further

I am sure that even the most hardcore of J/F flyers in this forum can "tolerate" a Sydney - Brisbane flight in Qantas Economy...

Heresy and something I don't want to try either. (Although I don't consider myself a hardcore flyer of any description) [I should add that thanks to tornado alerts at CLT earlier this year I did finish up having to fly from CLE to ORD in something called "coach" - it was horrific.]

I was not on the flight when this event occurred. But I can speak from my own experience. In over a thousand flights I have only ever seen pax removed from the plane maybe a dozen times.

Half these involved pax who were full of p_ss and bad manners - and we other pax welcomed this. The other half were the DYKWIA types who threw hissy fits about something and seemed intent on delaying the flight at all costs - again we other pax were so happy they got thrown off. And in each of those cases when I was near, I heard the escalation - always the same - pax who feel very important take affront that their cough is not kissed, then threaten to sue the airline or have the staff sacked - then the demand for staff names.

I have also seen many smaller altercations where abnoxious pax demand staff names - and I have heard the staff very happily communicate this info.

I do not see any hesitation as "arrogance" - it is natural defensiveness when some "celebrity" is threatening the livelihood of someone who is just trying to do their job. Getting a supervisor to intervene is a smart move.
 
With monopoly of many routes, the carry-on baggage debacle, CEO who is arrogant and staff that should be retired, customer service is not priority.

assuming the reports so far are true

I can imagine two pop stars thinking they are too good to the rest of the world (were they flying business?)
staff refusing to give names is passive aggressive and rude
whats the law when a staff asks you to remove the luggage from above? do you have to?
are staff even obliged to help gettting luggage from above, given they could get injured and it could be a safety issue
what happens if you are too old/short and you are asked to remove luggage but cant

who knows, or it could be all a publiciity stunt, like everything else in the world

in my expeirnce, a staff member should provide their name straight away, 1. it makes them look like they know theyre in the wrong if they refuse , and 2 if you are doing your job competently then you have nothing to worry about,

refusing makes you look bad, in the credibility stakes
 
If it is a publicity stunt it is a very successful one - look at the mileage it is getting here - AFF full of the sharpest minds in the country yet it is being debated / kicked around like there is no tomorrow :cool:
maybe im old, but when I see evidence that it was a deliberate publicity stunt or theyve lied about soemthing, ive lost all respect for them and would not go out of my way to support them again,

And they made a video recording (for evidence?). But now don't want to release it.

To be realistic, would MT have displayed the DYKWIA attitude reported by one of the J class passengers who (allegedly) overheard and observed the episode. Pretty sure MT wouldn't have been in whY either (opup).
 
Also, ask the FA to show the "rule" that bags have to go in wheels first...? I can't find it on the QF website. Yes, sure, we know anecdotally that is the preference, and I've seen from time to time placards which show this is preferable (maybe on an airline in the USA...?) but if QF can't produce the written evidence in a publicly accessible location, how can they enforce such a "rule"? Again, sounds like over-zealous FA to me... and I've seen plenty of them on board. (In fairness, I've also experienced plenty of non over-zealous crew members... in my experience, these outweigh the cranky ones....).
Just common sense that 99% of passengers do the right thing.. Do not need to be a scientist to work out that doing it correctly will allow all to have room to place their bags etc in the above space. Also FA's have been instructed to not lift bags to prevent back injuries.

I heard that MT always placed her carry-on neatly under the seat in front and never acted like a DYKWIA. 😉

Given every single QF flight I've been on (well not only QF obviously) there has been one or more of : pregnant woman, elderly/infirm, injured (arm in sling or using crutches), disabled or height challenged person.

Truly amazingly not once have I observed a single one of them being thrown off the plane and they always seem to manage somehow with a smile, and an excuse me, could you please, to a fellow passenger or prearranged assistance from a member of the crew.

Somehow, for some yet to be revealed reason, two perfectly fit 34yo, some would reasonably physically attractive females, were in dire straights and managed to be removed from the flight.

I’m backing the QF staff at this stage, 100%. I’m still waiting for Lisa and Jessica to post their video. Maybe have to wait for it to be in their next song, with the video clip. 🤭
