Thinking of doing an award redemption but it has a change of airport between the two flights in a city and I think it could be a struggle to make it to the other airport in time... If both flights are on the same PNR and you miss the flight how likely are they to try and get you on the next flight that day or the next??? both airlines are in the one alliance as well...

Have you checked whether the transit time meets the legal connecting time?

Assuming it does otherwise the flights options wouldn't be shown as connecting, I would further investigate the transport options between the two airports & the frequency etc. Are you going to have checked baggage or HLO? You still have to clear Customs if it's an international arrival because you obviously can't be a transit pax as you're not in a secure area airside.

Despite being in the same alliance I would exercise caution particularly as it's an award ticket involving multiple carriers.

We travelled in March on an award ticket & initially when we had our booking on hold we were travelling GUM UA x/NRT NH x/PEK TG BKK & there was only one hour & a bit transit time in NRT, still legal however IMHO not advisable.

You've got to weigh up what the worse case scenario would be & in our case was being on a US Air (037) award ticket travelling GUM/NRT on UA, with the potential to mis-connect to NH to PEK then TG to BKK. Also whilst legal to TWOV in China for a stay of less the 72 hours we really didn't want to arrive in PEK with potentially no confirmed onward flight.

Prior to ticketing our booking I rang up & kept the original GUM/NRT flight but changed the NRT/PEK/BKK to the day after so we overnighted in NRT. As it happened we arrived at GUM airport that morning to find that our UA 828 flight had been cancelled as the 777 a/c was u/s in NRT. Although they rebooked us on another flight about an hour later on a 738 we would have missed our connecting flights had we not changed them to the day later.
