Things to do in Hong Kong?

Just landed in Hong Kong and we were originally thinking of going up to the peak, however visibility is very low today (it's really hazy) and we could barely even see the mountains as we came in to land. Is there any point bothering heading up? I suspect no in which case it's just the star ferry and a bit of shopping (Mrs Flashback can hardly stop smiling!!).

There is plenty to do in HK other than 'The Peak' although the tram up the slope is almost worth it in any weather.

The giant Buddha is a great experience. We caught the bus instead of the cable car. Well worth seeing the other side of the island.

I agree. I caught the cable car up there. There are so many steps but well worth it.

I also caught a ferry & then a bus to a fishing village nearby. It is so different to downtown Hong Kong!

I loved the streetcars & the trains.

I also loved walking to China from Macau.

We enjoyed Stanley too. Just a bus ride from Central. We also went to Disneyland as my mum had never been to one before. It's cute and doesn't take long to walk around.

I caught a bus up and cable car down the hill. It was a nice view, until fog rolled in...

I'm just back from HK, and we didn't go to big Buddha, as we were told the cable car is currently under maintainence....so definitely worth checking this our before going..

Ocean Park: Megga big, many escalators to get up and down, heaps of rides and sections..

I didn't even get to finish or see half of it, so will be back next year...

Also has a night time "light and sound show".

hay Flash ... OI hope you didn't stick with the FB recommendations and that you really did make it onto HK Island. Kowloon is just too toursist-oriented. The real HK is found on the island and well worth the extra 10 mins on the train.

For a real HK experience, spanning markets, high-end shops and great food options, I would always head to Causeway Bay and use Times Square as a starting point and explore from there. Within walking distance you have everything from wet markets to bazaar style markets, up-market shops, street food and fantastic dim sum.

Knutsford Terrace in TST is always a good dining option for International cuisine with it's many restaurants.

Ahoy NM! We caught the Star Ferry over to HK Island and had a wander around. Stumbled across the red light district, interesting even during the day! :shock:

Day went quite quickly, Mrs Flashback liked it but thinks maybe not a holiday destination for her.

Bus up to the peak in any day. Large double decker bus which you try and get the front upper seat. The bus goes through some of the most prime HK homes & residences. The tram down has little or no line. Get the lonely planet guide for this and also walking around the mid-levels. Especially on the mid-level pedestrian areas and escalators. I great public walkway project more cities should look at.
I stumbled into a large art show in the old jail during one of these walks. Amazing. Stop for a foot massage when tired.
Eat as many dumplings as you can. Try michelin starred dumplings at Tim Ho Wan. (Mongkok)

Get the ferry to Macau. Get the free bus to the Lisbou hotel in the old area. Walk into the old city and see portguese area and fort. Lonely planet guide has another great walking tour. It is like standing in a wedgwood factory with all the yellows, blues & greens.
Eat as many baked custard tarts as you can.
Get a seat for the water show.

Sorry , I just saw your post... I live in HK for 27 years. I think I can give you some advice. Did you go to ocean park or disney land ?

If you like shopping , you can go causeway bay and Mongkok , these are good places to visit...
