Happy little vegemite just now...

Booked a Transpac flight on NZ the other day (for a date 6 months away!) and then applied for a "Standby" upgrade all the way from my cheapie Y fare to Business Premier....

Upgrade cleared on submission...

Now, I DID hit "Gold Elite" on the NZ program recently, and such advance clearance IS advertised as a benefit of that level ("where available") .. I suppose my cynical nature had discounted that ever happening...

So now I'm in seat 5A......(the nice forward C cabin on the 744)

Felt like Christmas.. particularly as my last flight was chockers in all classes and for the first time in 2 years I had to sit in my originally booked seat and cabin on that long haul....

Yep, GE elite is a nice perk for AirNZ flights.

Also is the ability to upgrade from any revenue booking class. :D

The treatment one gets in Y as a GE is embarassingly good too....

That last flight in Y - LAX-AKL.. I must have been visited 5 times by the Concierge.... The Biz class headset was a nice touch too...but my seatmates were wondering what was going on!!!
