I thought it was a pretty good video - I think the whole concept is very exciting and wish QF all the best - will be a great achievement when it gets up and running - I have no doubt it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a commercial reality - be that QF or a competitor.

Boring! That was flown 30 years ago!

I am old enough to remember when that original flight look place. Watching the old news reports you posted it was interesting to hear that the technology to make this commercial was at least 10 years away. That was 30 years ago and still not there yet.

By the aircraft with the same name Longreach...
I think that around the time of the original flight the term Longreach was used on all 747-400’s but may be wrong. If the aircraft in the news reports is of the actual plane that did the flight according to goggle VH-OJA was actually named City of Canberra and is now at HARS. But then again goggle may be wrong.

I think you are correct. I remember thinking at one stage how odd it was that I always got the same aircraft!

Longreach was the Qantas name for the 747-400 variant, it wasn’t the aircraft name (although I can’t rule out the first wasn’t also called longreach). It’s a bit like the Navy - for example they have the Hobart class destroyers - which are named Hobart, Sydney and Brisbane. The 747-400s each had different names.

Edit - VH-OJI was in fact called longreach. Retired now.
