I must say I prefer Canadian bacon to the cremated excuse for bacon you get in the States.

Yep I remember. Not great, but still cheaper than other Midtown hotels.

Canadian bacon

What they served as Canadian bacon the other day was nothing like what we get at home either....

Canadian bacon is what you know as short cut bacon.

Personally bacon made from the pork belly is the most delicious and will always be better IMO

They served some chunky round, ham-like thing. That's not bacon at all.

So like a rasher of short cut?

Nope, like a fat chunk of weird ham. Perfect circles...

Also picked up yesterday a giant tub of strawberries and two tubs of raspberries for $10. That just doesn't happen at home.

That's just strange. Win on the berries though.

Last day in NewYork. We weren’t particulary fast to get out of bed, but quicker than yesterday. We ducked into Starbucks for a hot drink and a bagel for a cheap and easy breakfast, then onto the Blue Line down to Brooklyn. I’ve been down that way before, but never had the chance to just wander. We popped in and out of a few shops, took a few photos, and ambled along the “shore”. Part of the park is closed for revamping, but what we could access was quite nice, with a great view of Manhattan.

We headed back into Manhattan on foot, over the Brooklyn Bridge. It was suggested to me years ago that you were better off catching the train out, and walking back to take in the view of the city, and it’s true. The second half of the bridge is under tarps, but I got some great photos in the first half.

From the end of the bridge, we hopped the Subway up to 21[SUP]st[/SUP] street to take in the Flatiron Building, and saw a buzzing food market in Madison Square Park. I also spotted Charlie Pickering (The Project) and his wife taking a walk, but left them alone. Then a quick stop at The City Quilter for a little fabric for my stash.

A pit stop at the hotel to use the bathroom and drop off some shopping, then back on the subway to 86[SUP]th[/SUP] st. We walked via Central Park, around the reservoir, to 5[SUP]th[/SUP] ave and the Guggenheim Museum. We thought about the Met but it is closed today, which I later discovered is due to the Met Ball. Should have gone there for a little celebrity spotting. But anyway, the Guggenheim has on an exhibition of Italian Futurism. Some of it was quite interesting, and some of it really not my style, but it was great to see inside such a unique building. We jumped over to Lexington for a little wander, then took the subway to Grand Central Station; another sight ticked off the list. Made a detour via Shake Shack when I saw the lack of line for a caramel shake (amazing),then some chill-out time in the hotel room before dinner.

One for the F&V buyers, blueberries were $0.99/KG - Dallas, Jan this year.

My friend in San Fran has told me I can look forward to a bounty of stone fruit when we get there.

Just loving your TR fonds memories and also some great ideas for future trips, I have to say I found the subway confusing and used shanks pony most days, I wonder if there is a trick to using the subway, as I would end up downtown when I wanted to go uptown.

Great trip report so Far blackcat20

Walking Over Brooklyn Bridge is a great Highlight on any visit to the Big Apple.... fantastic views to be enjoyed!

I'm with you on the bacon too...... streaky bacon just doesn't cut the mustard so to speak.

When you enter the subway, there are signs to uptown and downtown, to make sure you're on the right platform.

I have finally caught up with this thread, and am enjoying it immensely. I am especially enjoying the nice big pictures.

Any trouble getting wifi at the hotels/cafes etc?
