The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Is this one of those quad seats areas?
Where 2 of the seats face the other 2 thru a window / portal.
If so your 3rd seat could see other 2.
Others will know.how get what I'm across more clearly.

Yes, block of four, which can be converted to an open suite of the four seats.

I read on line about this, especially what happens if there are three of you, not four.

Seems for 3 the set-up is less than ideal, with only a tiny opening, and you have to slide sideways to see through it.

If the fourth seat happens to be empty, great, but it’s a risk.

Sorry if has been recently asked ...
If Virgin offer you the bidding system for a Business upgrade ( specifically for Hobart to Sydney & return ), what is the likely winning bid figure ?

I'm not holding my breathe, as I bid $60. each way ( BID not BET !! )

Any chance of winning with a 'low ball' offer ?

Looking at booking 2x J reward seats back from Europe either via SIN or DOH in Nov next year.
I have booked a lot of reward seats with QFF but finally have enough points to use Velocity.

I want to book as soon as possible so I'm looking as far in advance as possible to plan ahead.
All the articles say seats open up 330 days before the date, but the earliest I can find from even just DOH is just about every day up until Aug 29th (279 days). Is this the usual, should I just wait until 270 days in advance?

I can see Singapore have a lot of seats available further in the future but would prefer not to transfer due the the exchange rate.

Look for tickets on SG - LHR/FRA/BCN/AMS to SIN. Currently tickets are only released until 20/10/26. Keep watching these routes. QR is dry, plenty flying to Europe though. You can definitely fly to Singapore in business, then take premium economy to Sydney.

VA in J - Can you still get snacks from the Y menu free ? Last J flight was about a year ago and I recall the FA saying no, but then getting a few cheese and crackers and pack of chips for the kids, and said she could do it this time.

Thanks, I'm struggling to find much to SG outside of PE to SIN. From 279 days there is daily availability via DOH but don't want to leave it that long and miss out. I'll keep watching, LHR seems the most likely but we'd prefer ZRH, MUC, FRA or GVA. Beggers can't be choosers though.

I have never known that to be an official, or even unofficial benefit of J.

They have galley snacks… crisps, soy cracker-puff thingies, biscuits and chocolate. But I haven’t ever had an offer, or seen anyone ever have, ‘anything’ from the BOB menu.

I’d say it’s a ‘no’, but you never know what you might get offered on the day.

Prior to covid you could in J order anything off the Y menu for free.

Now they have a different drinks selection for J (which is ironically a step down from the paid options in Y) and then a "pantry" selection of snacks.

Yes I think that's what happened :) Thanks! Just wanted to make sure before demanding paid Y snacks in J... :)

Does anyone know if I can bag drop in the morning for an evening flight in gold coast airport?

Yes, check-in is open same day for all VA domestic flights (given it is staffed, which shouldn't be an issue in OOL).

Seems that family transfers online has been down for over a week - you have to call up and they'll waive fees.

Surely within 24-48hrs it should be fixed up, rather than leaving it for a week+?

So, since my post above from April, the family points transfer portal still isn't available online?

Does anyone know why you are not able to check in online for a short haul international flight?

Limitations in VA's systems. I doubt they'd spend the $$$ to change this.
Used to be able to, my guess is by forcing airport check in they get to be stricter on visa/passport checks that limits possibilities of fines/having to return someone.

I did the transfer Amex point promo in November and December for 15% bonus points ... finishing it up in early December. How long is it usually until the bonus points arrive?

If an airline transports someone without a valid entry visa then the airline gets fined, that's why interenation flight is always manual because the check in agent has to be sure you have a right to enter.
