The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Sorry for the newbie question - flying Y flex Monday (no status)

With the 23kg limit - is it limited to one bag ? Or could it be two bags under a total 23kg?

I booked MEL-ZQN on VA as they had a mid morning direct flight. I've just had notification they aren't operating that direct flight now and they have offered me a flight via BNE departing about 6am. I'd rather get a refund and book another carrier for a later departure. Will they give me a cash refund (i paid cash) since they can no longer provide what I booked?

I have the same flight booked but for Jan 2024 ; did they mention the flight was not operating for any particular date or that the route has been shelved as I can still the active booking in my VA account. Thanks

The route is operating. Frequency just varies throughout the year. January 2024 is scheduled for a daily service.

Does anyone know if VA's gates are far from JQ at OOL. Considering a 50min theoretical connection after doing a semi status run on VA.

VA725 gets to OOL supposedly at 7:15 and JQ405 departs at 8:05 for Sydney.

I would be getting JQ Max (QF status) so can cancel / shift to different flight in worst case scenarios.

It's basically a mixed user terminal, nothing is more than a 5 minute walk away. Even that might be conservative.

Relatives also affected by the MEL-ZQN schedule/frequency changes later in October. Their flights were ADL-MEL-ZQN. VA had them suddenly overnighting in MEL. They ended up changing flights to the day before as that particular day the flight MEL-ZQN was to operate.

I need to fly BNE - China by end of Oct, so can someone please help me to find the best flights with virgin/partner airlines. I could fly business but max I want to spend is $5000 return. Happy to fly into a different country first, 2-3 stop overs is fine.
SQ would be your best bet.

Maybe not J, but you can buy ecomX on the Aust to Japan flight, and earn max VFF points and max VFF SC, and then HND - China with another airline.
If earning the max VFF points and VFF SC is important to you, also to have eligible sector, if you pay a fare that is not the base fare, not sure what its called.
Might end up being close to $5000 return you are willing to spend, but has the most gain, VFF points and VFF SC wise.
Trouble is getting to CNS to meet the flight to HND, might have to over night in CNS, if your home city is far, and not a lot of VAd flights from there to CNS.
===
VFF SC earn processing is fastest, if you fly within VAd/VAi.
Once you make a booking with a VA partner airline, the processing of SC can be tied down, ie, can be slow, as one side blames the other for the slow processing.
SQ is very good an airline, and the data for VFF SC earn on SQ flight, the data might get transferred fast to VFF, or it might be slow.
If you book and fly the VAi sector, CNS - HND and back, then the data is within VFF, so the SC earn should be processed faster.

I just linked 2 separate VA booking, had to book separately etc.
wife & her sis.
Wife is a WP, was told once linked the 2nd booking which has no status can sit next to the WP in EcoX.
upon linking I was told that'll be $52, haha I said isn't there no cost as it's a linked booking with a WP & it's family...."I'll just double check, back in a moment"....yes I can put her next to her sister, no cost, but seats will still be confirmed at the airport.

Not being critical, but on a couple recent calls to VA & not getting the premium team, I have been served some ordinary information, the cynic in me saying VA trying to squeeze a few bucks out of us.

Also other week was told a choice fare to change to another flight time on same day there was a $99 fee, I sort of accepted it (reading recent choice fare not being as flexible), but didn't go through with it had to do others things. Tried online, and walah I could change to another flight later in day for no cost. Coincidently no cost difference.

Dare I say it VA management need/want further profit to showcase their IPO....naughty me, ha!

I thought the free ecoX was only for pax in the same booking. Linking would potentially open that up to a far greater number of passengers and potentially detract from the benefit? (But good outcome that it worked in your case)

yes I agree, but the call centre operator did make a point of specifying as it was family it is allowed.
Then again same booking allows mates, work colleagues etc. why family allowance on linking I have no idea.

In my case was same surname, but being female there's be plenty example of surnames being different taking the husbands surname, so not sure how one could prove they are family, other than just saying they are.

Interesting.

A question about family pooling.

If I remove an 18+ contributor from the family pool and replace them with another 18+ contributor for a period of time, can I later remove the new contributor and add the original one back? And is there a limit on how many times I can do this in a year?

Yes. Unaware if there is any limit.

Is there a limit to the number of 18+ contributors who can be included on your 'pool'? Otherwise, just leave both parties as part of your 'family pool'.

Likely not possible, but wanted to ask anyways. I have a rewards flight from HND - CNS all booked next year. But i'm planning on flying from CTS (Sapporo) that same day. Does anyone know if it's possible to book a NH flight through VAs call centre to then combine them in one itinerary, so i can check the bags all the way through?
