The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Are you viewing on the web or the app? The latter has been notorious for me in not updating unless I log out/in again.
Tried both, nothing showing in either app or web. Even logged out of both but still nothing.
Was thinking I’ll need to wait for them to reply but thought I’ll see if anyone else has experienced this before.

Is it a saver award (lowest possible) on the UA site? Dynamically priced awards are not usually available to partners.

If it is saver, you could try calling VA to see if they can see it.
Ah no worries. I didn’t realise re it has to be a saver award.
Thanks for that.

hi, new here! I'm trying to book a UA Y reward flight from EWR - HND using VA points — the direct flight has award inventory but I'm not able to book it through Velocity, either from the portal or through the call centre (only connecting itineraries are shown, eg via LAX or IAD).

seats are showing for the direct flight when searching through VA for IAD-HND instead (comes up with IAD-EWR-HND), as well as directly searching through both UA and SQ (all award/miles searches). is this a known limitation of Velocity on some routes, and if so is there any way around it? I haven't found discussion of this on any forum :(

These are called “married segments”. They have different availability.

Hi all, is there anyway to search for just Choice fares?
Trying to look for cheapest eligible sectors from BNE. So far I've found BNE at $99
Thanks

As VA no longer flies to the smaller Aust towns, if its SYD, thats quite good a fare.
Or even if its BNE - CNS.
But to sum up, the VA website would be the only one to go for, and it does not list Choice fares on its own.
Its all Lite (non eligible sector for ascending status), Choice, Flex, and Business.
Other travel websites will all take from the official VA price list, they might discount, but there is a slight downside, in that seat selection might not be available on the reseller website, and you need to put your VA booking PNR as provided by the reseller, into the VA website, and put in your seat request there, ie, having to do double jobs.
Personally, I would just use the VA website.

Use promo code ZXW75, it will remove lite fares in my experience. even if it doesn't offer you a discount on choice still helps to filter the "trash" ;)

Thanks, that's a good tip

Yes, I meant BNE-SYD

I booked MEL-ZQN on VA as they had a mid morning direct flight. I've just had notification they aren't operating that direct flight now and they have offered me a flight via BNE departing about 6am. I'd rather get a refund and book another carrier for a later departure. Will they give me a cash refund (i paid cash) since they can no longer provide what I booked?

Yes. You should be entitled to that under consumer law.

You’ll need to call. make sure they understand this is involuntary. I’ve had agents willing to cancel, but not fully understand I’m doing it because of the schedule change!

Thank you!

I just rung, got straight through to a VA rep and they process the refund no questions asked.

I'm trying to work out if I can do a name change for a virgin ticket - does anyone know if this is possible and if so what it costs? Thanks

Stepping up to the podium for my next newbie question, is it possible to transfer lounge vouchers? Now that I am (discover) gold I have no need and would like to transfer to others

Hi all,

I am a gold member and need to earn 265 status credits before 4th Nov. review date. ( i have earned 4/4 sectors already).

I am struggling to find decent flights to quickly get SC.

I need to fly BNE - China by end of Oct, so can someone please help me to find the best flights with virgin/partner airlines. I could fly business but max I want to spend is $5000 return. Happy to fly into a different country first, 2-3 stop overs is fine.

I also need to fly to Darwin on 2nd Nov. Will my SC be awarded before the 4th?

Thank you!

Your SCs are accrued and effective from the date of travel, even if they take a day to show up. So any flights on the 2nd will count even if they take a day to post.
