The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

The review date will be an year from the date of status update. If you look at your status on app , you get to see the review date for your account.
So, the review date being 15 Dec 2023, it means that having at least 400 SC earnt since the previous December will requalify for Gold for the period Dec 2023 - Dec 2024. Right?

What's this business about 12 month validity of the SC's from the date they were earnt? That throws me off in this. Or am I just overthinking it...

Anyone have any data points on how close you can go to 1,000 status credits before VA automatically upgrade you to Platinum?

I remember when I first hit Gold they upgraded me at 490 credits. Currently getting pretty close to 1,000 but given I have no credits expiring until January 2024 I would prefer to hold out as long as possible with Gold before moving up to Platinum, could family pool some credits away between now and then if necessary.

Any idea why there are no seats available (cash) between SYD and JHB (mid Nov - mid Jan)?

Haha, yes JNB - typo. But I'm not looking to use Velocity points. I want to book a cash ticket? And if I search QR or SQ sites there is availability?

We are talking about two different things :

1. The expiry date of a status is 12 months from the date ( assuming 7th Mar 2023) you have moved to a higher status like SG or WP. The next review date will be 7th Mar 2024 to check if you have met the criteria to retain your current status.

2. Now say you are able to earn some SCs in Apr 2023 , so the credits that you earn in Apr 2023 will expire after an year and has nothing to do with your status level.

Hope it makes sense.

I realise that you were searching for a cash fare but the same arguement holds. Virgin/Velocity are not offered seats on all flights - especially by SQ - particularly during times of heavy demand. Can't you buy them from SQ/QR and add your velocity number later?

Sorry if this is a silly question.
If you hit 1,000 status credits again whilst being platinum does your review date get reset?

I could but I'd like to book via VA (via AIA Vitality portal) as I get 50% cashback on flights

Trying to find a Velocity search hack tool I'm sure I read here on this forum somewhere...
Someone posted a change to the URL in the search bar for Velocity redemptions where changing one or two words meant only business/J rewards showed up to avoid manually having to click through each option...can anyone please share this? Thanks

I couldn't get the URL to work. I changed the two dates from 2022 to 2023 but nothing. Assuming if it still works I would also change the Bookingaward from False to True.
I've even done a fresh search and then just changed the Class to Business and still doesn't work.
Either gives a 404 Error or the below

No, review date is reset only when moving up tiers...
Sounds like a strange system but it is what it is, then.
It's also much less generous than in many other programs where your review date / membership year remains as is. If you hit a new level midway through the year, you get the rest of the year and the full following year at the new level.

Technically, VA operates that way once you attain and then retain status.

Moving up a level resets your date but the counter is you also have the rolling 12 mths SCs. Most other programs wipe your SCs each anniversary and you start from zero.

I dont use the old URL - it's old....

I simply perform a new search and change class=First (Business/Economy) to class=Business.

That changes this result...

to this...

However as you can see I can see both Economy and Business from the same screen - so the change (for me) is a little pointless...

The display above is a recent change so maybe why the old URL does not work correctly?

I would love to find a hack to only show Business where an award seat is available - as you can see above that is NOT an award seat.

So I am on the brink of being upgraded from Silver to Gold, with a future trip coming up but am curious if all the SC on the flight that gets me to Gold, go towards Gold's Maintain credits , or the excess essentially get wasted/dropped?

Please note I'm asking about the Gold Maintain SC's here, not the SC's for the next tier.
Let me explain with a couple of scenarios to keep the math simple:

Scenario 1:
Lets say review date is 31/03/2023 with 3/4 Sectors and sitting on 499 SC
Now if I took a BC family pooled flight with myself/partner on 20/03/2023 worth 55SC each for a total of 110SC.

My understanding is that the eligible sectors are not pooled, only the Points/SC.
No probs, this will bring me up to 4/4, upgrade to Gold and new review date of 20/03/2023 right?

However what happens with the Gold Maintain SC's here after the upgrade to Gold:
  1. 0 Maintain SC's for Gold (i.e. 109 SC's were wasted)
  2. 55 Maintain SC's for Gold (i.e. Only my 54 excess SC's were wasted but partners were pooled)
  3. 109 Maintain SC's for Gold (i.e. All 110 SC's were attributed to the next tier, 1 used to get to Gold).

Scenario 2:
Lets say review date is 31/03/2023 with 3/4 Sectors and sitting on 600 SC.
Same flight as above.

Do the excess 100 SC essentially get wasted/reset when achieving gold when that final flight triggers the next tier, or do they get carried across as Maintain SC's for Gold? Further what about the actual flight that gets you across the line to the next tier. Do those SC's just vanish?

Number 3. All SC count towards the next level. Only 'extra' SC after your review dates are 'wasted'
