The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Thanks for your reply - do you know how I go about transfering my points so that I can fly with Singapore Airlines? I have 75k worth of Velocity points right now and would like to see how many more points I need.
Have you checked availability on the VA website aswell as the SQ website?
Sometime it’s not worth transferring the points if there is availability on VA.
For example ADL-SIN in J is 57k VFF plus $228.
Same flights costs 68.5k SQ miles plus $106. With a transfer rate of 1.55 you would need to transfer 106k VFF over to SQ so as you can see it’s a lot more expensive points wise.
If there is availability with VA just book it through them

Ahhh I see - Yea so Im planning to travel to Japan and saw that there were some flights with Singapore Airlines around those dates from sites like SkyScanner - not sure why its not picking up in VA.

How did you go with maintaining VA gold and which was the flight you opted for ?
No able to retain (70 odd SC and 1 eligible sector short) and my Gold is under review now. However, I have an array of flights coming up from next week, which should, with DSC, take me to VA Platinum. Let's see

Re : Gold review - the app says that I'm still Gold, the membership card on the app says REVIEW DATE : 11 FEB 2023, CARD EXPIRY : 11 MAR 2023. I will earn enough SC to qualify for Platinum by, hopefully, 10 MAR 2023 (assuming SCs post immediately). The VA website sits "REVIEW IN PROGRESS" or something to that effect. I'm anyways flying J next week and the week after, so lounge shouldn't be a problem.

I think you are confusing the two.
The flights you will see on Skyscanner etc are paid revenue tickets.
Your best use of points is for award seats and for that you need to check that there is award availability on either SQ or VA’s website

Update to the above - I have now dropped to Silver today. I had checked in to my CBR-ADL flight last night, when check-in opened, and I was issued a Gold BP. Today I checked in to my next flight (MEL-ADL) and was issued a Silver BP. Velocity profile updated to "Silver"

If I am pooling to a family member and they do a one-off transfer of points to me so I can use them, will the points transfer to my account and stay there, or hit the account and then pool back? Anyone done this before and know?

Very good question. Yeah you'd think they may well auto transfer right back.

Interested in the answer.

Anyone having issues booking points related flights tonight? Tried laptop and mobile, everytime I try search a flight with particular dates, it keeps asking me for dates over and over and over in a loop...

Try clearing cache & cookies for the VA website or in incognito mode etc. Sometimes this happens to me (though not for a while)

Thanks. Actually I think it's happening because I am selecting 3 guests, when I change it to 2 it works fine.... only 2 rewards seats for every flight on this route it seems

I have achieved enough SCs to gift my partner gold status, but the Velocity website is decidedly vague about how to actually do this. I’ve emailed the platinum help desk but no response yet (6 days and counting), is that the best method?

I rang them and it took only a few minutes to set up (whilst I was in the VA lounge!)

Recently upgraded to gold late last year so enjoying the benefits of lounge access. If I enter the lounge by myself and say 0 guests at the self check in screen, can I leave the lounge and then come back in with a guest?

A dummy question about the status periods, please. Late last year I "switcharood" myself to VA Gold, review date in late Dec (for some reason the switch reset it from mid-year). Last week I requalified for Gold but how long does this status now go for? Until Dec 2023? For the next 12 months? Until late Dec 2024?

Reading the VA website, they say "Status Credits and Eligible Sectors are valid for 12 months from the date they are earned". I find this "rolling" validity rather confusing in terms of maintaining the status.

Since Mar 2022, before the Switcharoo, I earnt 85 SC, during the switch 90 SC, and since then have clocked 544 SC. All this now shows as my current tally. But for how long will the status stay?

The review date will be an year from the date of status update. If you look at your status on app , you get to see the review date for your account.
