It only opened in 2004 I believe?
The Gravity Wave Detector itself was operating by at least 1993. A couple of us were attending some night lectures by the originator of this facility Professor David Blair of UWA in the late 1990's and he organised a trip for the group to see it. It was a much smaller operation in those days.

Interesting. I went off Corporate - Gravity Discovery Centre which says it opened in 2004. Go figure.
I think a lot more 'tourist' infrastructure was built after our visit. When I went the hunt for gravity waves was the main reason for the existence of this site.

Dad passed away at the end of last year and with Greek tradition there's a celebration (type of wake) at 90 days. We don't know many people and mum didn't want to do anything here so we used the money in Thailand instead.

We budgeted to buy 25-30 x 15kg bags of rice but we ended up buying 46 bags of rice. Went to Makro 3 times as list kept growing.

We also had an evening of drinking in dad's memory. (They don't need an excuse for a drink including Johnny Walker Island Green)

Thai New Year is 13-15 April and each year my wife does a hamper for 5-6 of the poorer elderly locals including rice, milk, towel, toiletries etc. They are really appreciative. And on 16 April there's usually a local celebration at the Buddhist shrine in front of mother-in-laws house. We sponsored the food this year. We had 15kgs of Kanomsen (Thai rice noodles) with pork as well as desert.

And also, wife and I try to take a mobility walker with us each trip. We have donated 2 mobility walkers already to elderly locals and we have another to take with us next trip in September. The 83 year old lady we gave the previous mobility walker was so happy. She used to get around with an old cane but struggled.

Word of our actions has travelled quickly and we really could do with 6-7 mobility walkers now as the village has an ageing population. I posted this story at work and many people have posted they'd love to assist. If we have a fund-raiser the company may also match the money raised. We can buy the mobility walkers for around THB3150 each.

Ideally we'd love to leave a couple of mobility walkers with the local community centre that anyone can borrow when they have a need after an injury or operation.
