We have been flying through LGW with EK for the last 2 years, and don't really have any concerns. Gets busy when a few Easyjet flights arrive close together, but with chauffer drive and being met by checkin staff, it all goes smoothly. And the EK lounge its just like every other one.

With all the ME stuff going on, our backup flights are through LHR, and really it is just such a melee there whenever we go through. Have side flights to BER and return in late August, out of T5 with BA, and I am sure it will be the usual chaos.
