The view or two from my "office"

What is time and fare please?

Our schedule is depart Gare de Lyon 11:14 arrive Marseille 15:21. Two J tickets hit my Visa AUD232 total. Purchased from Trainline who offered best deal after comparing 3 sites and different operators at a reasonable time of day. Like airfares prices are a moving target and sometimes J cheaper than Y by.changing departure by one hour

Addendum: J from Geneva to Paris @6am was cheaper than Y @8am.

Simplicity for a lot of trips over a few days purchased in advance a Eurail pass can make sense. For us outside Switzerland we only needed 3 trips spaced weeks apart so purchasing separate tickets was the way to go. While in Switzerland we bought a Swiss Pass.

If you download relevant apps and join the sites, you will get regular offers of cheap fares - great if you are in Europe and want a weekend away or similar but also can be useful to just see what is possible, learn about pricing and hand pick a fare here and there if flexible to suit your needs.

SNCFConnect, Trainline, SBBMobile are three I joined.

Also watch "Black Friday" and similar for price discounts on passes bought in advance.

The man in seat 61 is a great resource (google for site)
