Today's office was the Orphan School in New Town, Hobart. Too long a story to recount here, but a harrowing part of our history. Renowned Irish sculptor Rowan Gillespie had done 3 prior commissions of stuatues in Hobart marking ( mainly Irish) convict women and children. The first, by the Maq1 hotel on Hobart docks, was unveiled by the Irish President about 7 years ago.

This is the last in the series and Gillespie was there, with the Irish Ambassador and the Governor of Tas.

A great occasion, even if the weather was a little 'soft' as the folks there say.

With the models for the statues, both descendants of inmates of the Orphan School:

The statues. The little girl's was originally envisioned to show her reacting to seeing her mother beaten to death by her father. It changed a bit but still a horrible story.
